Does anyone know anything about a "bullseye rash"?

My DH woke up this morning with this mark on his stomach. It looks like a bullseye, red outer circle, larger white inner circle, and a white dot (looks like a pimple) in the center. It's about 1/4 to 1/2" in size.

Everything I've found online suggests lyme disease. He doesn't spend time outdoors and in the house he literally sits on only two different chairs and sleeps in our bed. He has many health issues.

I can't imagine where he would have gotten a tick bite. I've examined the bed very carefully and found nothing.

I'm just hoping it could mean something else. The last thing he needs is another health issue.

I've only ever heard of a bulls eye rash in relation to Lyme disease. I would see a doctor ASAP. With proper antibiotic treatment (doxycycline for 30 days), he should not have any lasting effects.

If your dh goes outside at all, he can get a tick bite. he doesn't need to be hiking in the woods or always outside to get one.
If he has a bulls eye rash, go to the doc ASAP, if it is Lyme then it needs to be treated immediately with antibiotics.

The bullseye rash from a tick bite would not appear right away. For instance, he could have gotten the tick bite a few days ago and THEN gotten the bulls eye rash. It was my impression that the rash didn't happen right away.

It can show up 4 to 6 weeks later. Many people get tick bites and never know it until symptoms show up. Also, look for flu like symptoms, aching joints is another sign. Of course, you may not get ALL signs so OP even if he doesn't have any other he should still see a Doc ASAP.

ETA We are on symptom watch as per the doc for my ds. He was out in the woods last week and had a nasty tick bite on his scalp.

Sounds like lyme disease, but maybe shingles??
Shingles will start to spread and will bubble up.
A doctor needs to exam him. Do you have a afterhours clinic in your area? The sooner he gets in, he can begin meds.

Yeah, that's what I thought--the rash comes much later just couldn't remember the timeframe. Thanks!:thumbsup2

Thanks to all. You reaffirmed my thoughts.

My DH has had a heart attack, a stroke, skin cancer and is a severe diabetic - but he still works full time. He is so sick of doctors, and I'm not sure he's ready for another diagnosis. He is also a very smart man so hopefully he'll see that he really has no choice.

Does it look something like this?

If so, go see the Dr. as more then likely it's a tick bite and he has lyme disease. Not something you want to go untreated.

Lyme is very easy to get. We live in a development and deer literally come up onto out patio and on our driveway. I've seen them early in the morning and there are always hoof prints around. I'd get him into the dr. tomorrow. Lyme can cause all kinds of problems if it isn't treated quickly and properly.

I've only ever heard of a bullseye rash associated with a tick bite. I'm not sure that the rash definitely means lyme disease, though. Ticks can come into the house on a pet, on clothing, on another person, etc. Even if he didn't go outside himself, he could still get a bite from a tick that got into your house somehow. I'd get it looked at for sure (and take a photo), but I hope it's nothing to worry about.

This is very true. My DS16 was diagnosed with Lyme Disease in March. He has no previous symptoms or rashes, but had a nasty swollen knee. After an MRI, and 7 cc's of fluid extracted, blood work showed that he was positive for Lyme and had had it for a while. Thinking back, we think he may have been infected for over a year.

OP, do you have pets? If so, your pet could have carried a tick....get your DH to the dr. and get some blood work ASAP. If it IS Lyme, and you let it go, it can make him very, very sick.

Don't panic. DD had a Bulls Eye rash years ago. Pediatrician said to watch for other symptoms, flu like symptoms, etc and to note on the calendar when we saw the rash. It ended up being nothing. This was probably 12 - 15 years ago. I would call MD tomorrow during regular hours but not panic about it.

I also wondering about ringworm. My DS12 is being treated for ringworm on his foot right now. One area of the rash is round, red and kind of bumpy. The doctor gave us a liquid anti-fungal to paint on twice a day and the rash is starting to dry up and is much less red.

I had a rash on my leg that they thought was Lyme, they took blood and did a biopsy. They determined that it was not Lyme but probably a spider bite.

my dd had a lymes bullseye rash. It was more tannish in color then red and I didn't realize that was what it was at first.

I had a spider bite that was circular like that once but it had a very dark center.

I would definitely get it checked out.

The first thing that came to mind was Lyme disease. I agree with others, check it out as soon as you can. It's better to be safe than sorry.
