Here you go!

4 cups all purpose flour
8 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt

8 Tbsp butter, margarine, shortening or lard

1 3/4 c. milk

Measure dry ingredients into bowl. Add butter, and cut into flour mixture with a pastry cutter until mixture is coarse & crumbly.

Add milk. Stir with flour until gathered and mixed. Turn out on lightly floured board. Knead gently 10 times. Roll or pat dough out to 3/4 inch thick. Cut with 2-inch cookie cutter ( I use a glass!) Put on ungreased baking sheet; close together for soft sides, 1 inch apart for crisp sides. Bake at 450F oven for 12-15 mins until browned.

****The recipe is simple enough, but the dough will be sticky. I find it "quick and easy" but it might be tougher for the kids to work with.

The trick with biscuits is to not "work" the dough too much. If you knead it too much the biscuits will be hard when they cool. If you only knead them 10-12 times (more like gathering the dough together) then they will be soft and fluffy!

Depending on the size of the cutter you use, and how thick you roll the dough out, you might need to cook them a little longer.****

I have been making this recipe for about 15 yrs, and my family and friends love them. For some reason alot of people think making biscuits is difficult, and none of my friends will even try to make them. They love it when I invite them for dinner and serve biscuits hot out of the oven!

That recipe is doubled already and should make 18-20 biscuits, depending again on how thick they are rolled and how big the cutter is. If the dough is too sticky to roll out, just shake a handful or two of flour on it (whatever you need).

I use Paula Dean's Cream Buiscuit recipe and no one has matched them yet!

If any of your stores sell "Teays Valley Biscuit Mix" give it a try. It's very easy and tastes like our grandmothers' biscuits!:)

We made FayeW's they were very simple and easy. The kids had a fantastic time. They had so much fun my kids want to make biscuits again tomorrow. We are going to try the Paula Deans creamy biscuits in the morning.

BTW FayeW...

I am so glad you told me this. The biscuits were very fluffy. My DH said if they had some honeybutter on them they would have been the best biscuits ever! He is a honey fanatic, puts it on everything including pizza crust. :rotfl:
I guess now I need a honey butter recipe.

I will also look for "Teays Valley Biscuit Mix" in my stores.

Thank you for all the posts.

I've been using this one, from AllRecipes.com. They always turn out great. :)

2 cups self rising flour
1 cup heavy cream

Combine in a large bowl. Turn out onto floured surface, knead for about 5min (until not sticky). Roll to about 1/2 inch and cut out, bake on greased cookie sheet (I use a baking stone instead) at 450 for 8-10min.

All the fat needed is already in the cream.
