We are moving our home in a month. Someone suggested that we should tip the movers after unloading. Is this tipping normal?
It would be normal to tip. I would be ordering lunch to be delivered as well.We are moving our home in a month. Someone suggested that we should tip the movers after unloading. Is this tipping normal?
Usually you wouldn't be tipping the person who owns the company. In this case you would be tipping usually young men who are not making much money at all that are doing some of the most miserable and thankless work out there. When friends and family have helped us move they do it for free. I have always ordered pizza, wings and bought a couple cases of beer. If I'm paying you in the hundreds and thousands to move me I'm not doing that too. I would have a cooler with cold water though.
We also provide drinks and lunch for the packers, loaders and unloaders. .
My cousin is a mover- works for a cross-country moving company. He just laughs inside when people tip him, or bring him lunch. As he pointed out, he makes around $30 an hour AND collects a meal per diem when he's on the road. He says it's somewhat offensive that people think he'll take better care of their stuff if they tip him; he takes care of your stuff because it's his JOB, he's well-paid, and he wants to keep his job! Just because people are doing physical labor doesn't mean they are poorly-paid or have a lousy work ethic.
