Not baseball or football. I don’t see any teams in NY being a rival of the Pirates or Steelers. However, the Rangers I would say are a rival of the Penguins and have been (Flyers are the biggest). A couple years here and there the Islanders also.

I ask because our soccer teams will play each other in two weeks (USL Championship vs MLS) for the first time and I'm curious if a friendly rivalry could start organically. I mean I know soccer is popular in Philly (the Union play in the suburbs) so I'm curious if NYCFC (the Pigeons) coming to Pittsburgh (the Riverhounds) will actually attract new fans if a rivalry already existed. I mean Google AI said this:
"Yes, Pittsburgh has a baseball rivalry with the New York Mets and the New York Yankees. While the rivalry between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Mets is less intense than other MLB rivalries, it does exist, particularly due to their competition in the National League East. The rivalry between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees is more pronounced, especially given the Yankees' historical dominance and the Pirates' efforts to compete with them."
"Yes, Pittsburgh and New York have sports rivalries in both the NFL and NHL. In the NFL, there's a rivalry between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, and a less intense one between the Steelers and the New York Jets. In the NHL, there's a notable rivalry between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers."
