DH and I had our monthly decluttering date today. It was the hall closet and apparently that's where we stuck our completed map. After some hammering and prying, we now have $12.50 to spend. Woo Hoo! (I do plan to do a quick check on the internet before we spend the wad and make sure we don't have something weirdly valuable in there. If anyone has any ideas of anything to check for, let me know.) I sent our grown children a "guess what we're doing?" message and no one is heartbroken.

Never saw the point of trying to collect them. Collectible coins only have value if they are produced in limited quantities or are proof sets specifically intended to be collected and tend to go up in value. Circulated coins are rarely considered collectible. While I believe paper money is far more likely to be counterfeited, the fact there are now so many different designs for the quarters probably doesn't help and I never really understood what they accomplished having quarters for every state.

It was an interesting and educational thing to do with our then grade school aged children. DH still used mostly cash at that point, so he'd always give one of them his change to look through. They enjoyed when they found it and got to put it in the map. I kind of assumed most people with kids did it. It felt quite similar to doing grocery store games, etc. where you get little "wins" and I always enjoy those even though I rarely use any of the coupons etc. I get. I don't know anyone who thought they were getting something valuable, just something to do. I don't collect anything for the monetary value, only things I find interesting.

My FIL had several that we found in his belongings when he passed. He had a base set/map but others contained the more rare mintings with greater potential of increased value. Of course, most of that was due to minting errors. We let DH's uncles keep those. We just took all of his other rolled quarters he collected in the process, removed the silver ones, and kept the rest for laundry on road trips!

Oldest DD wanted hers so we gave it to her. The other 2 kids' we just spent. We don't use coins much anymore (except Aldi shopping carts!), I do like all the newer quarters that have come out, with national parks, was surprised to see American women on some recently.

They came out when DS was young and we enjoyed collecting them. No map, but we have two sets of them in cardboard books/folders. At least one is complete, one may be missing a few states.

Mine's sitting in the basement. It was fun to try and collect them at the time, but I don't really have any use for the final product.

When these maps were all the rage my mother got one of these and she started filling it up and she would be collecting state quarters like a hobby and I think our map was filled completely but I think when we moved my mom forgot about adding more state quarters to the map and we still have ours today. I remember when these maps became popular and every store had them on display and I always thought they were so neat and I never that these maps would begin the start of a new hobby for years to come

Yeah started collecting coins (and stamps) when I was really young. My parents were into it and had already starting keeping old silver dollar coins, old quarters, etc. I still have rolls of quarters marked bicentennial. I know they're not worth more than a quarter, but it was fun keeping them.. I have most of those old blue coin collector books where you put the pennies, nickels, etc based on year. But my dad and older son collected the state quarters together. I stilll have his map. Then I did the maps with the younger 2 kids. I also have most of the proof sets for the state quarters, at least the earlier releases.....all that is put up now in a closet. I need to get those out and just look at them.
If anyone watches The Floor, they had a state quarters category recently. It was fun to see all those quarters.

Oh, wow, yes!
I still have my mom's map. She passed away in 2005 & had those states marked off. We finished up the rest & it has been on a shelf in my closet collecting dust.
She wanted her great grandson who was 5 when she passed, to have it. He will be 25 this year so time to pass it along to him. I think he is the type to cherish that memory of his granny-granny.

Mine are in a book, I have 3 or 4 of them. The ones the kids had got given to them. DS had a map. I am pretty sure he took the coins and trashed the map.
