Do You Prefer to Drive or Be a Passenger?

When it comes to road trips, everyone has their own preference. Do you enjoy the freedom and control of being behind the wheel, or do you prefer the relaxed experience of being a passenger? On short trips, I don't mind doing the driving but on extremely long road trips, I prefer being the passenger as I can enjoy the scenery and relax. What about you?

I am often the driver on both long and short trips. Maybe because I am so used to that role, when someone else is driving I tend to step on an imaginary brake pedal and exhibit other such behaviors that keep me from enjoying the passenger role too much!

Passenger mostly. I don’t mind driving when I’m alone but if someone else is with me it makes me a bit nervous as the driver, especially if they are a talker. I want to pay attention to my driving, other drivers, my surroundings, etc. and not be listening to them talking. When DH and I take road trips I definitely want him driving. I would drive if I had to, or if he wanted a break for an hour or two, but I prefer having him drive.

Hate both. I'm a tense nervous driver & neurotic mess of a passenger. Wasn't always this way but gets worse with each passing year. Wish I lived somewhere with good public trans.

Definitely the driver, I’ve saved friends $ by volunteering to being the DD instead of ubering. Friends, family, I’m driving.

DRIVER! I am a nervous passenger and do not like not being in control. Plus I can't read or sleep in cars, both things DH can do. Just let me put in my music and go, I have always enjoyed driving.

All me life I've always been the driver. It didn't matter if it was a short trip or long trip and I always thought I liked it. Recently I got to be a passenger on a short trip and it was amazing how much I enjoyed it. I could actually look out the window and see the scenery and just relax...oh what I've missed.

I really hate other people driving as I’m a control freak and annoyed by everyone’s driving except my husband (I chose well). So passenger with him and driver with everyone else.

I was always the driver until I had multiple eye surgeries. Even though my vision looks great on paper it isn't so great navigating in the dark, rain and snow and places I don't know well. That means DH drives. He is a good driver but lets all the crazies stress him out. I am the gps in FL and sometimes get it wrong since roads change every time we visit. We are taking 417 from MCO to WDW this time. I don't know why we haven't done that in the past. I do remember that highway being built for the executives who lived in Celebration at the time...don't know if that is still the case or not?

An elderly cousin took DH and me out to dinner and she drove us in her car. One foot on the gas, and the other on the brake. Very jerky movements. We never rode with her again.

I don't like driving, never have. One of the best days of my life is when I started to work from home.

Probably been 25 years since I took a road trip where I wasn't the driver. My FIL driving us to Galveston would be the last time I can recall where I didn't drive.

I don't drive. I mean, I never got my license. I'm always the passenger, and I prefer it, I think. I am continually amazed when people drive on highways and such where it all looks the same, and not getting hopelessly lost. Or my sister, who is usually the one driving us somewhere, getting lost and telling me we're going to have an adventure. I would freak out.
