I took very few vacations during my work career - about 1 every 10 years. I did take time off though. I either stayed home or visited family.
I also did a lot of volunteer work during my vacations that required trips to attend board meetings - so those were really working trips.
My job required lots and lots of travel. I traveled to London, New York, Singapore and Sydney on a regular basis.
I flew business class, stayed in 4-5 star hotels and ate at fabulous restaurants. When I was off work I just wanted to stay home and relax. Flying someplace and staying in a nice hotel was not my idea of a vacation since that's what I did for work.
Now that I am retired I travel a lot. I don't know if you can call it vacation since I no longer work.
The first two years I was retired I traveled about twice a month.
We never ever took family vacations as my dad was in the air-conditioning business. We didn't have any money anyway.
