Disneyland in August...thoughts????

I have had trips in August 2023 and August 2024. And in 2025!

August 23: August 9 to 17.
August 24: August 20 to 28.
August 25: August 20 to 29 not finalized but will be soon.

There were Tier 0 and 1 days in 2024 but honestly the attendance was average. Busiest day was Monday. The weather was nice. Schools for the most part were back in session.

I love Disneyland in August. With schools back most of the crowd was some locals some Key holders and out of towners - it was very manageable. I went to OB on first night and the other 2 party nights were fine crowd wise.

I went in August last year and would not hesitate to go again. It is hot, but it is California...it is more dry not like WDW In August where you are a wet mess the second you leave your room. Plus it is easy to take a break at the hotel mid day and swim or nap. It was still crowded..but not awful. I don't think there is a true slow time of year anymore. Halloween starts in August and we were there until the day before official Halloween started. They already had decorations up etc. We did have a few ride closures which was a bummer, but we still had a blast on what was open. In all, August was not my favorite time to visit DL, but if it was the best time for me to go that year, I would go in a heartbeat. Right now we have to go when we can work it out with all our kids' schedules, so August won out last year and we had a great time. I hope you have a wonderful trip whenever you get to go!

Thank you! We were trying for April, then May but my niece works for the school district and her daughter has been pretty sick this year so we don't want her to miss much more school. I have never been in the summer, but it sounds like it might be the best time. And you are so right about August in WDW, instant armpit weather!😓

HOT for DL is pretty nice to me. Nicer than FL August, and nicer than August in Philadelphia. A hat and a mister fan go a long way.
The other thing I love is that the park stays open late! The night hours after the sun goes down are great.
We were there first week of August in ‘23, and the third week of August in ‘24.
The heat is not a huge deal for us...we have been getting warmer it seems in Washington (state)...last year we went over to Idaho and the humidity was nuts! Thanks for the advice!

Realistically how bad will the crowds be that first week of August when the Enchant Magic Keys come back? Any patterns in their behavior? Tips for that week?

We went at the end of July and beginning of August 2024 and the weather and crowds weren't actually too bad, at least in our opinion. We were surprised at the low crowds we experienced then. The weather was definitely warm, but wasn't unbearably hot. We used lightning lanes and getting there close to rope drop so I feel like we were able to do a lot. One benefit we had was that we are east coasters, so we had no problem waking up early with the time difference. But we would also definitely do that time frame again!

MK holders don't tend to arrive at the parks until after 10 am. They also don't tend to stay after dinner. My suggestion would be to arrive early and stay late. They may stay for the first Paint the Night or Fantasmic but there will be mass exodus from 9-10pm. Avoid DTD during that time.
