Hi all! I'm sure most of us have tried a Disney Turkey Leg at one time or another. My question is... does anyone know if it is possible to get them outside the parks? I'm having a Pirate Party for my two kids at the end of June and I want to have turkey legs there. Does anyone know where Disney gets theirs or if another online retailer sells them? My local grocery store sells raw turkey legs but they look puny compared to the giant craziness we all know and love.

If anyone has any information on where to buy turkey legs from the same retailer that Disney gets them, or another place you know of, I'd greatly appreciate all the help I can get!

Also, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but I wasn't sure where else to put it. Please move if you need to.

Thank you!! I also found a company that sells them a little over an hour from me in New Jersey. They don't ship so I would have to go pick them up but it's $50 for a 35lb pack, each leg at about 1.25lb each. And actually, I think I would rather pick them up because it would save a TON of money in shipping.

I was watching a Unwrapped on Disney World eats and saw a couple of things not to forget about them. Part of the taste of them is that they are injected with a Salt water brine and smoked for six hours or so. Something to remember when cooking the pound plus turkey legs.

All I can tell you about turkey legs is the best place to get them, according to a recent poll, is a stand right outside of Country Bear Jamboree.

WDW TURKEY LEGS:

1) Disney sells about 1.5 MILLION turkey legs every year!
2) That is about 7 turkey legs for every man-woman-child in Orlando.
3) Each of these bird legs weighs in at 1.5 pounds and costs $9.75.
4) They supposedly come from 40-50 pound turkeys!
5) Nutrition facts per leg
. . . about 1,092 calories per leg.
. . . about a days worth of fat
. . . about two days worth of sodium
6) Recipe
. . . take one leg
. . . inject salt brine
. . . smoke at 225º for 4 hrs.
7) Available near
. . . MK - Frontierland
. . . EP - America
. . . AK - Flame Tree BBQ
. . . HS - Tower of Terror

You can make them. I brined some in salt and sugar water and smoked them on our grill. It was really close to the real thing. I just dont think mine was as big as the ones there.

I am impressed!! DH had to go to NJ for business today and was about 20 minutes away from the Turkey Leg place. He picked up a 35lb bag for $50 and drove it home in a cooler filled with ice. These turkey legs are HUGE!! I cannot believe how big these turkey legs are. They are at least as big as the ones at WDW if not larger. I am SO excited to serve these at my kids pirate party!!

Does anyone know how to reheat turkey legs that are already smoked? Since these are sold wholesale the packaging is pretty bare bones... nothing like you would find retail.

. . . place on baking sheet
. . . cover with tent of aluminum foil
. . . 200ºf oven (low setting)
. . . 15-20 minutes
. . . wil not dry out like in microwave

Can I ask where you found them in NJ? Thanks!

Wow. If I'm going to blow that many calories and that much fat on a single item, it's going to be ice cream, not turkey. Or maybe cheesecake.

After all, we have to watch our sodium intake.

I would eat at least one turkey leg per trip until I read this nutritional information several years ago, now I never eat one. The sodium content alone scared the heck out of me!
