Just watched the live action Mulan. Overall I enjoyed it. It threw me for a bit that seemed to be trying to be more realistic but then periodically it would go all Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - but didn't go all the way.
By the end I was pretty bought in. I think it was like 3/4 of the way to a really good movie if that makes sense. Worth a watch for sure but also glad I didn't pay an extra $30 for it
One thing I really liked was how it showed other parts of China - desserts with camels, snow peaked mountains, etc - than are typically depicted
A lot of the effects were a little messy, especially during the opening sequence on the roof with young Mulan, but I think the story was well crafted. I honestly wasn’t even thinking about Mushu and Cri-Kee, this story didn’t really need them

I saw that instantly as well. But I watched a 2nd time after realizing she had the "force" at a young age, like running up walls later as an adult. So threw them some slack. Honestly it may have been on purpose.
Im actually totally fine with the “force” powers integrated into the story. It felt fresh. People don’t want a shot for shot remake, but they also don’t want the new story to deviate too far from the original. It makes no sense. I get people claim they don’t want these live action remakes, but they make money for Disney, and as long as they do, Disney is going to keep making them. And if Disney is making a lot of money from them, people are seeing them. But I digress. My issue wasn’t her powers as much as it was the messy effects that came along with it.
Oh I agree with all of what you said. Even the powers. I was simply saying she had the powers (we found out later) at a young age. Are you talking about how it looked odd when she feel, but was weirdly able to kinda bounce around and yet land safely with no problem? That's were I later thought she maybe could manipulate that fall.
I really don't think tehy should do too many shows. I'd really like some more animation too. High Republic as animation would be nice!
Its a lot, but they do need to get aggressive with content, and because Mandalorian has gotten so much praise, why abandon what’s already worked? To me, we get these characters to bring in money for Disney+ which would ultimately allow them to branch off into new story’s and new characters.
