On Disney, its assigned dining.
There are 3 main dining rooms, each have a different theme, some have entertainment during the meal.

Every room will be assigned a main dining room restaurant for every night of the cruise. You will be assigned a table number and a server team. The server team will follow you as you rotate between the different restaurants and you will have the same table number in every restaurant.

People request a specific restaurant on a specific day for many reasons.
  • They have a favorite restaurant or menu and want that on a specific day
  • They have a least favorite restaurant or menu and want that on a specific day so that they can skip it and book an adult specialty restaurant instead
I understand now.

I have looked but I didn't find where the menus are posted, how would someone know which dining room they'd want on a given day? I also tried to look up the movie theatre schedule of titles, didn't see that either.

Are these posted somewhere ahead of time?

Menus are posted on the DisneyCruiseLineBlog website. That site also includes Navigators from previous cruises so you can see what activities are likely to be offered. You won't know the movie theater schedule until onboard, but again you can get an idea from previous Navigators.

All the information about what theme the restaurants are on each ship is on Disney Cruise Website.

Each cruise usually has a theme night. The Caribbean and Bahama cruises usually have Pirate night. There are also various types of themes during the year such as Halloween, Christmas etc. You will know the theme night of your cruise in your cruise documents or by checking the childrens makeover activity booking. On Pirate night they have specific pirate make overs for children.

I like being in Animators Palate restaurant on Pirate night, so thats why I do a special request.

No they are not officially put online ahead of time, but about a week before your cruise you can phone Disney Cruise Line and they should have that information available.

I looked at the itinerary options and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Makeover is listed but it doesn't offer any clues about that nights theme. The description is very generic.

I'll call Disney and check about the themes and if they have access, the film titles.

EDIT:

I was able to put the request in for Pirate Night at Animator's Palate. I was informed that for this cruise, they changed the rotation for dining. The first and second nights are in Royal Palace. The third night is in Animator's Palate. The fourth night is Enchanted Garden and the final night is once again, Royal Palace.

Having looked at the menu for Royal Palace, I'm good with this! She listed the possible films to be played, Deadpool & Wolverine among them. That surprised me. Don't get me wrong, I find the merc with a mouth very entertaining and funny but on a Disney cruise? I know they own the IP but....

Well, it might not be played, it is just a possibility. I'm hoping for The Marvels since we haven't seen it at home yet even though the 4k disc and digital code is on my desk. I'm sure their theatre screen is bigger than my 120' which would be worth the wait. She also mentioned Moana II and Mufasa, both of which would be nice.

Is breakfast/lunch also fixed to a specific location per day as in the case of dinner? Do we need reservations for those? Based on the menu, we'd probably prefer Royal Palace for breakfast each morning.

Breakfast and lunch are at both Cabanas buffet and at a sit down restaurant. The times and locations will be on the App when you get on the ship.

You do not need reservations, you will be seated at the next available table. You will have to confirm your room number at the host stand, and then they will assign a server and table number to you. For breakfast and lunch all the dinner servers have shifts. You might see your dinner serving team at breakfast and lunch but its very unlikely you will be assigned to them.

The MDR breakfast menu is the same for all days of the cruise except for debarkation morning.

The MDR lunch menu has 6 variations and will rotate through them each day of your cruise. You will be given the menu for that day when they bring you to your table.

Good information, thanks.

I'm beginning to think that if there is a lunch or dinner I especially like....I'd better order two because I won't see it again.

Is that allowed? To order a 5th entree for a table of four?

Yes, this is one of the reasons I eat at the MDR breakfast , lunch and dinner every day on the cruise. Every meal is a new menu, so if there is something that you really like you can order an extra one. Just make sure you order it at the start, as the servers take all the orders at once and then bring out the food course by course.

Ah. That can be tricky. I won't know if it is worth blowing my caloric intake for the day unless I try it first and I won't want to waste food. We're always preaching to the kids, eat what you take and make sure your eyes aren't bigger than your appetite. I'd make their millennium if this trip made a hypocrite of me, that and I'd never hear the end of it.

I'll see how our server feels....about a late addition to the order vs food waste.

Now that I said it, I wonder, does Disney Cruises handle food waste the same as the parks? with collection and conversion into fuel?

I just got the dining rotation for my 5 night Dream cruise in June, and it’s so weird—three nights in the same dining room and one night each in the others. I didn’t even know that was possible! Not thrilled being in any of the dining rooms 3x in 5 nights. Does anyone know why they would do this?

Seriously?? I'm doing a 5-night on the Dream in a couple of weeks, and I don't know if I want to be in 1 restaurant 3 times (with the exception of AP)

I’m on the Dream right now and this is what we have also. It’s so odd!

We have AAERA and then final breakfast in R, with nigh two being Pirate night and night five being Marvel menu.

I don’t know why they couldn’t have done AEERA & R for final breakfast.
Hi! We are sailing this cruise 2/10. Is the show in Animators Crush or the drawing your own animations?

On cruises 5 nights or less, the show in Animators Palate is always Crush. They only do the Drawn To Animation show on 7 nights or longer, when all passengers on every rotation will have 2 nights in Animators Palate.

Thats what I assumed but we did a 3 day that has Drawn to Animation and a friend that was on a 5 day that had it was well so I wasnt sure if they replaced that with Crush.

I would be shocked if RRAER has pirate night on the third night. That would mean you won't get the AP menu. I'd call back and double check that.

Wait...so you're in a different dining room for last morning's breakfast? THAT is going to confuse a lot of experienced DCL people who are accustomed to going to the dining room for the last night on the final morning.

I'll confirm tomorrow but she said it a few times and even went so far as to put the request into the concierge team that I'm requesting it.
