Disney’s Magic Band FAQ Link

Is there anywhere we can get the old style MBs (without Plus)? It's odd because we never received new MBs when we renewed our APs year after year, although other people told us that they were sent new MBs each year they renewed.
Disney no longer sells any of the none PLUS MagicBands. You can load a Disney MagicMobile Pass on to your smartphone and use your smartphone to enter the parks and redeem LL passes (if you purchase them).

Disney didn't automatically send new MagicBands when you renewed your AP. You had to order them through MDE after you renewed.

Thank you! I discovered last night that I could do the mobile thing and use my Apple watch, so I’ve set it up and will give it a go today. If it works, that will be much easier than having to remember our magic bands all the time.

I've use both my iPhone and Apple Watch to enter the WDW theme parks without issue.

I just completed a trip using my Apple Watch, and can't recommend it enough. It has all the functionality of a Magic Band+ (minus the lighting up at certain situations) and the Apple Watch serves purposes in everyday life away from Disney. Yes, the Apple Watch is more expensive, but if you already own one, it costs $0 to use at Disney.
How do you use your apple watch instead of a magic band? We have been searching for our old magic bands all over the place. Also how new does the watch have to be? Thanks!

In the MDE mobile app, touch the menu (3 bars) icon and then select "Set Up MagicMobile Entry". Follow the steps to add the pass. That pass should automatically sync to your Apple Watch. If you are only setting up for yourself on your iPhone & Watch, express mode (on by default) will allow you to just touch your iPhone or Watch to the reader without needing to unlock the device first.

If setup passes for multiple people on one device, you will need to open the wallet app first and then select and scan the MagicMobile pass for each person.

Not sure what the oldest version it supports, but it works fine on my Series 7.

Just a tip. If you manage family members in one MDE account, you can set up everyone's and forward their pass to them from your Apple Wallet to theirs. Once you do that, you want to delete their passes from your Apple Wallet and from the Apple Watch app on your phone.

I set these up for DH and I last week but failed to delete his card from my iPhone (Wallet & Watch app), so when I tapped in, it tapped me in under his name since both cards were on my account and his name is alphabetically before mine (or so the CM explained).

It doesn't do the long range auto linking of ride photos (like Tron, Pirates, Guardians, etc), or does it?

I know you can use Magic Mobile on the phone to do this, just curious if the watch can do it too.

Is it better to buy my magic band at the resort or park instead of the online Disney Store which seems to have a limited selection? Is there a better selection? Similar prices? Would I need to charge it for a night before using it? Thanks!

If you don't have a resort reservation with Pre-arrival discount, OR you don't like the selection available for resort pre-arrival discount (which does change, so check back from time to time) in My Disney Experience, then you can purchase from Disney Store web site, Pin Traders at the Marketplace End of Disney Springs, various shops in the parks, or the resort gift shops.

The difference:

Pre-Arrival bands for resort stays, DVC or Annual Passholder via My Disney Experience come pre-linked and assigned to the guest, and their name engraved on the back. Usually you get a discount of up to $10 per band.

Bands purchased in-store, or Disney Store web site, must be linked and assigned to guests in My Disney Experience. The bands are sold at full price, unless they are having a sale, or you can use some other discount like Annual Passholder or Disney Visa at time of check out. There is often a wider selection available, especially at Pin Traders in Disney Springs or The Emporium at Magic Kingdom or the Dark Room at Hollywood Studios.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, in either case, you'll want to also charge the MagicBand+ before using its long range features (i.e. auto linking ride photos and videos on rides like Seven Dwarfs, Tron, Frozen, Guardians, etc. just any ride that doesn't have bank of monitors at the exit to tap and claim your pictures).

The bands should also be fully charged, then paired via Bluetooth to your phone and the My Disney App upon first use. This allows the band's software/firmware to get any updates to ensure it has the latest features and fixes.

To pair/link the bands to your phone, install the Disney World app on your phone, open it, sign in if/when prompted. From the app's main screen use the 3bar (aka hamburger) menu button, scroll to the Account section and select MagicBands & Cards. From the top, select the card that has "Your Name" and "Pair your MagicBand+". On the next Screen, for Pre-Arrival Discount bands scroll to find your band, once its in focus, scroll the screen a little and select the PAIR button and follow the prompts. For Store Purchased bands, use the "+Link" button and follow the prompts. Once the pairing/linking process is complete, if the band is in need of an update, you'll be notified, again just use the upgrade button and follow the prompts.

If you are linking store bought bands, be sure to be very careful and select the correct person. Once the band is assigned to someone it can't be re-assigned to another person.

We have booked a July trip and this is a rescheduled trip from February. I am trying to link the Magicbands I had purchased but they are not connecting. I just want to make sure the Magicband gets the info on our new hotel reservation and park tickets. I am charging band thinking that might be the issue. Thanks!

How did you purchase them? If they were pre-arrival bands purchased through the Magic Bands and Cards option in your My Disney account, they would be already linked and assigned to people, and you just need to Bluetooth pair and connect them to your phone to make sure they have the latest software on them. To do that they will need to be charged.

As long as your resort reservation is linked to the same my Disney account, the bands will work for your hotel and Parks.

Ok the issue must be that they are not charged. Thank you!!

Once the band is charged...

When you go into the App on your phone, use the 3 bar menu in the lower right, scroll down and select MagicBands & Cards, then select "<your name> Pair your magicband", the bands already linked to your account should show there (scroll left/right if needed). If the band you want to use is shown and in focus, scroll down a little and under Bluetooth select PAIR... and follow the instructions.

Many people don't see the PAIR button because its off the screen. Instead they see the LINK button and try that, but if the band is already linked, it will fail. The Link button is only for bands you buy in a store (or DisneyStore web site) as they will not be linked to your account when you first get them. And once a band is linked to someone, it doesn't need to be linked again.

Well it is showing as paired with Bluetooth but it won’t connect?

Make sure the band has full power, and bluetooth on your phone is turned on.

Worst case, go into your phone's blueooth list, delete the band and try to repair via the Disney App.
