DCL stateroom TVs and the HDMI port

I was reading the list of prohibited items and they list AppleTV, Amazon Fire Stick, Google Chromecast, Roku, etc. so I'm guessing my Nvidia SHIELD is part of the "etc".
A bummer since it accepts USB and can let me bring titles I want. My experience with other cruise lines is that the selection of movies and shows is rather paltry at best.
I am hoping the TV has the Disney app so we can log into that but I'd still like to bring my own titles.

This brings me to the HDMI on the TV, assuming it has one. Is it locked out through some proprietary means preventing me from using a laptop or tablet as a makeshift
streaming device? It would make sense, given they ban bringing streaming devices onboard.

This probably isn't much help but on the Treasure last week I recall seeing some option on the TV for you to cast from your device. I don't do that so I didn't think any more about it.

Streaming devices are specifically called out because they require an internet connection which, even if you are willing to pay for, could bog down the connection for other users.
They do not have the Disney+ app for the same reason since they do not have onboard servers to host content.
I know people have reported plugging in things like nintendo switches to the stateroom tvs so if you have your own content on a laptop or tablet and want to use it, it may be possible.

Okay, this is good information. Just knowing it has an HDMI and I can switch inputs is key. Some hotels we've stayed at recently use proprietary systems that lock out the ability to switch inputs rendering the HDMI useless to use.

Does anyone know if plug in USB adapters like the ones with a mix of multiple USB-C & USB-A ports for charging a phone, Magicbands, watch or other USB powered devices is permitted onboard? I'd hate to rely strictly on my laptop USB.

I also read they don't allow coffee makers but I have a Outin Nano Portable Electric Espresso Machine which is USB powered and I'm wondering if it will be allowed. The USB is just to charge the internal battery. Once charged, I can brew 8 cups or so. It's mainly for when we wake up. My wife has espresso for blood and gets "caffein friendly" if that first shot isn't within an hour of waking up!

At home, the Juro fires up on a schedule so the first cup is ready whenever. On the ship, it won't be until we make our way down to breakfast.

On that subject, is breakfast also on a schedule like dinner? or is it buffet style?

Breakfast is not scheduled. The buffet and one main dining room will be open each day for guests to visit any time during open hours. There is also a beverage area with brewed coffee available at no cost all day and night. Depending on the ship, there will be one or more places to get espresso and specialty coffee for a fee. You can also order coffee from room service. I have hear of people ordering a carafe a night that stays warm until morning.

Yes, plug in USB adapters are allowed, I have brought them onboard before.

I think the espresso maker would be at your own risk. Typically the prohibited items are electrical because of the fire hazard, so a USB espresso maker might be okay. But, because it's got a heating element it still might be considered a fire risk. You could try bringing it, but it might be confiscated. I didn't know USB espresso makers existed so I've not heard if anyone's been successful or not.

Also, just a heads up that you can order coffee via room service and select a time for it to be delivered. So it would be right outside your door.

On the list of prohibited items, there is a list under ELECTRIC items and then a list of general items, on which “coffee maker” appears a 2nd time. I can’t remember on the TV remote if there was an option to switch input. I think part of the issue with messing with the TV is that people don’t put it back correctly for the next guest.

Bring what you want but be prepared to have one or both confiscated until you leave the ship. Of course YMMV.

Household and General Items

Disney Cruise Line is committed to creating a safe and enjoyable cruise experience for our Guests; therefore, the household items listed below are strictly prohibited from being brought on board. Should any of these items be found in your baggage during the security screening process, they will be confiscated and result in a delay of your luggage delivery until late evening on embarkation day. To ensure swift delivery of your luggage to your stateroom, please leave these items at home.

  • Agricultural items such as flowers, plants, fruit, etc.
  • Balloons and kites
  • Bottle sterilizers and warmers (a limited number of approved bottle warmers and bottle sterilizers are available upon request through Guest Services on board)
  • Candles, incense and diffusers
  • Coffee makers, heating elements, blenders, hot plates, microwave ovens and rice cookers”
Etc.

Yea, I saw that, coffee maker is listed twice.

So, anything confiscated isn't like TSA taking my wife's tube of toothpaste and trashing it because it's a "liquid"?

I might bring it...she really likes the Illy coffee. I do too but I'm a bit more flexible and can tolerate other coffee but when it comes to the first cup of the day, she needs that jolt. She used to wake up to Turkish coffee and that stuff is like mud. I swear, a spoon can stand up straight in the cup. It took years before she stopped doing that at home and felt okay with espresso.

TBH, I'd just call to find out. Rather be disappointed and have to bring Starbux one shots or the like than have your little espresso machine confiscated. That would suck.

Edited to add: Cove Cafe opens at 7AM if she needs that fresh brewed espresso; and they use Illy also

Now we're talkin'!
I'll map out our room to the Cove Cafe......

Thanks!

EDIT:

Up two decks and forward 4 steps. Perfect.

Any confiscated items are held and you can pick them up on disembarkation morning. The exception to this is liquor and any excess wine/beer (above the allowed amount) on embarkation day: these are discarded (not held for you to pick up later).

What's on the TV is a scaled down version of Disney+. It has a wide range of Disney shows/movies, but not as a vast as the full catalogue of Disney+.
