DAS changes coming WDW May 20/ DL June 18, 2024

We are going in May. When do we need to apply for DAS pass for our son who is mentally disabled?
As PP mentions, you can do the video chat within 30 days of your first park visit.

Please be aware that Disney has changed their disability accommodations and many guests who previously qualified for DAS no longer do. Be prepared to explain exactly how being "mentally disabled" impacts your son's ability to wait in a standard queue environment, including some examples from every day life. You may want to read up on some of the alternative accommodations while planning.

We're going in December for MVMCP and will likely add a park day as well. Please remind me, can we get DAS for the party?

I'm also making contingency plans in case we get denied for DAS. I looked and could not find a thread discussing the use of LLMP as an alternative to DAS. Before I start a new thread, can someone please let me know if one exists?

Thanks!

Yes, if you qualify for DAS, it will be available during the party.

Couple of quick questions. Does a medical professional get on during every call? If you are denied and still have issues once you get to the park how would that work

The medical professional gets added if the cm needs help with the decision.

If you are having issues in the park after denial and given alternatives to use. You can try again and explain why those alternatives aren’t working.

When we are there I would only have acceess to a phone no laptop how do u do the call thru the app ?

Guest Services have iPads that you can use. When you log on it asks whether or not you are in the park, and when you answer ‘in the park’ the system can check to confirm, and that puts you in the front of the line for DAS interview so you shouldn’t have to wait too long.

we had the das for our trip in July. We will go back in august 2025 ( only doing 1 long trip 10-14 nights a year)

The das was granted till dec 2024. Do we wait till July to renew it or can we renew it now?

Thanks

You can only apply or up to 30 days before your first park day, so June/July 2025 is when you can apply again.

Finally came time to apply for DAS, was denied. Cast Member said if he was in my shoes he would stop going to Disney in general, and said the system is unfair but they are really pushing them to deny as much as possible.

Sad. Probably the last year of AP's/dvc for us.

I’m sorry that you won’t be able to find a way for Disney to work for you anymore. Just being there makes me so happy.

Hopefully they record/monitor calls, and that CM is disciplined or fired.

I hope they don't fire that CM for telling the truth.
If you have an employee actually telling people that

1) they would just stop going to Disney if they were that person
2) the system is unfair and
3) they are being told to deny as many as possible you've got some big trouble going on there.

I'm inclined to believe more that there was a misunderstanding rather than a CM actually saying that sort of stuff, attempting to sympathize with the person on the phone or something more like that.

While I know my insurance call center subject matter is obviously different because we were beholden to insurance commission rules but it was in my employment contract that I could be subpoenaed for anything I said or did and for good reason. In general people don't realize there are things you really cannot say or do for all sorts of employment positions because it's either against the law, against compliance, against company policy, etc. Actually telling someone that they are supposed to deny as many as they can is like a huge bright red flag of a discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen. To bring it back down here people have come onto this thread mentioning what they've heard through the grapevine or relaying what they've been told but it's very unlikely that you have this many CMs seemingly saying what has been said and various other posters have pointed out that it's sometimes hard to really intake what is being said in the heat of the moment when you're upset that you're either being denied or being questioned (something many of us do at some point or another).

Well said. A CM recommending that someone not come to Disney due to their disability is not only harmful to the company they work for, but could definitely be seen as an agent of Disney purposely discriminating due to a disability.

Just a heads up if you’re going to do any of the M&Gs you can get DAS with. They are not on the app. You have to go to each queue to book them.

I’m not sure why MVMCP was essentially operating under RTQ for the M&Gs (and only those tbc rides were available to book on the app.) I just know it was.

Somewhat unrelated but if anyone is planning to do Jollywood Nights. Be prepared to have DAS M&Gs be possibly confusing. When I went they said we couldn’t use DAS even though two of the queues had the capability and weren’t being used. (Olaf for Santa Stitch and Mickey and Minnie.)

And I got about three different answers on whether I should have been able to book the latter. (The app did). I ended up going by GET the next day at one of the other parks. Asking them to politely streamline this between the parties because the walking contradictions within even CMs was a problem. And didn’t let me plan adequately for my needs

(For me at least having visual sightline while not a fix for some of my issues for why I have DAS. Helps a lot. And a lot of places with DAS don’t have visual sightline to end of queue. So I try to plan for high wait non DAS things. Finding out that we weren’t supposed to be able to book while the app was allowing it kind of wrecked plans. Because I would have reversed things with Santa Stitch and them if I had a clearer answer. Like I can handle long queues depending on the day as long as I plan. Like I did a 70 minute Santa Duffy line at the same party. But I also could see the entire line the whole time.)

I kind of suspect they gave up on the no DAS thing for Mickey and Minnie at some point. Since when I came back for Mickey and Minnie there was someone in front of me in the line. But they were at least trying at one point.

All I want is cohesive use of DAS and for leads to not forget we magically not abled during party hours. Which is a reoccurring issue on both coasts. Because sometimes they flat out put lines in non accesible places (DLs line in Tomorrowland for M&Gs near Space Mountain if you have a photosensitivity trigger for any number of disorders is a nightmare. I’ve had this convo with them multiple times of I’m not trying to skip the line and I get why the photo is here but you literally keep using queue that can trigger people with migraines among other things.)

Most of the lines weren’t bad at either party. But the consistency is an issue. Jollywoods probably a one and done for me (the line issue isn’t really the problem on the decision. I had fun I just like MVMCP more.) but hoping for other DAS users going they get it smoothed out
