Current work at the Fort

I want to add that @proudmomof4 's pictures of the recent construction progress (post #24) make me wince because the new resort is SO close behind Pioneer Hall (HDDR, TE, Crocketts). I'm afraid the look will instantly change when you step over a crack in the sidewalk between the two.
Not that I'll feel bad for the DVC owner, but what kind of view from your room or balcony will this have that look out to the backside of Pioneer Hall? Even if they put in big trees, as close as they are, you could probably reach out and touch a tree from the balcony.

I hope there is some effort to properly blend the western frontier look of the Settlement area and transition it to whatever-the-heck the new resort will look like. Oh its close alright... You can throw a chicken leg or a rib bone from the back corner of Crockett's and hit the back of the new building... This is why I think the Settlement Bus Stop will be shared between the 2 resorts...

Duane,

I think you just gave us the next Fort photo topic. We have had "Kickin' it at the Fort" with feet on the rails outside TE for a long time. Now we can have a "Chicken wing on the Balcony" section. Just like Kickin' It, depending on what rail your feet are on, points awarded for the how high the balcony you get your chicken bone to land. :rotfl:

(And just to stay in the sheriff's (Denise) good graces... This is a joke)

Have a question for Bama Ed since he posted that he visited DL Paris when first opened. Post #38
Did you happen to see the Buffalo Bills Wild West Themed Show ?
Very interesting history for the native performers that Disney respectfully hired .

No we didn't see it, @DL1WDW2. We only had 2 nights at EuroD which was 1.5 days in the park then to the hotel in Paris near the airport for the return flight home. And on arrival day, we had to take the milk run train (TER) that stopped at every little town from Menton to Nice along the Riviera and then TGV to EuroD getting in late in the day and to the hotel and set up there.

Do you think, or did you see signs saying this was going to be a DVC Sales Center? This is the area that I mentioned earlier could be them enlarging the bus pickup area...
I was poking around on the WDWMagic forums and found a thread about permits and notice of commencements. I hope your thoughts are correct and that it's not this.

I just booked my first cabin stay for May, and I didn’t realize how much construction is going on by the water… can you hear this noise from the cabin loops?

Wawa,

You likely won't hear noise from the new resort construction. We were the 2100 loop for 2 weeks in November and never heard anything. 2100 is close to the cabin loops and closer to the construction.

They are still finishing up the last cabin conversions. By May, I would think that is all done.

I feel that it's so disrespectful how close the new building is to the Fort and how they are taking over the beach. The cabins on the beach are to save what? some few dollars because it's already cleared instead of moving them a couple hundred feet down shoreline?

Have we even seen how this resort will be accessed? That monstrosity of a parking lot soclose to the Fort is another travesty. I imagine the designers thought it was a buffer but routing so many cars near the Fort will do nothing for peace and tranquility. I can only hope that their landscaping budget is large enough to appropriately block sounds and views.

I'll be there in April and will take more pictures. I'm introducing another brother to the Fort so I'll be able to judge how much the construction impacts fresh eyes.

The pictures look bad. We plan on being in Orlando for the month of May with at least a week at Fort Wilderness. We are moving our DD from Auburn University to the University of Central Florida to work with the football team as an athletic trainer. I just don't know what to expect yet. I remember River Country.

@Teamubr Thank you so much for the drawing & photo. I could never get a picture in my head of where everything would go.

Holy crow!! I didn't realize how much of TDCVTMNBN is going to impinge on the settlement area! For some reason I thought it was further west (at least it looks west to me) and there would be some minimal kind of 'open space' between 'us' and 'them'. The whole of Clementine's Beach will be DVC cabins/villas/whatever they call them.

We've always loved Loop 100, but considering how many more people may be in that general area, I'm not so sure now. We may want to bump down to 300 and deal with the 'long walk' to the dock. I hope they put lots of 'amenities' in 'that place' to draw more people away.

I have a feeling that even if they do build a separate dock, 'our' dock will be a shorter walk for a lot of the DVCers.
I think this new resort has the potential to ruin the fort. Hope I'm wrong but this just doesn't feel right. The fort was its own special place all by itself and now a new resort is bumped right next to it. what a shame

Is the ranch closed? We were hoping to do a pony ride this weekend but that whole road and sidewalk is closed.

Edit: Yeah it’s closed. We were looking forward to the pony ride and looking at the horses 😕

Keep in mind river country use to be bumped up right beside the fort wilderness. The fort survived. I have no idea how the traffic to the new resort will possibly impede the fort. But it might make sense if they try to structure the road ways to the new resort so that they don't impede fort wilderness.

Yeah but a water park is completely different than a resort. Pioneer hall has the potential to be a zoo with the other resort guests going to trails end, Crocketts, the playground and a little further away the campfire etc etc etc

River Country wasn't 7-8 stories tall a chicken wing's throw from Trails End. And they will probably put those two rows of ugly cabins on the Fort beach and impede everyone's view of the lake, the boats, and the fireworks.

The new monstrosity will be accessed from the Wilderness Lodge entrance and not the Fort Wilderness entrance when the time comes.

We may need to string barbed wire to keep the resort people away from our beloved Fort so they don't impede the wonderful Fort vibe. Thanks for the reminder.

I had requested loop 700 for my trip in April. With the construction I’m thinking I should change that?!?! I wanted to be near transportation but now I’m thinking to switch the request. The construction may be loud?

I can’t speak to noise levels in the loops close to the Settlement, but we didn’t hear anything in the 1300 loop.

I don’t recall things being too loud at the times we were at the Settlement either though.
