We went on Halloween last year and it was STILL sweltering, so I can only imagine how hot it will be this year at the end of September.

I need an idea for our group of kids - something cool and comfortable, preferably. Last year we went all out and it was fun - but I think the heat will prevent it from happening this year.

What are some good ideas that you've come across? We've done the Princess thing and the Peter Pan thing in years past.

Pirates???? I am still trying to figure ours out too, with the weather! How many are there? If there are 7 of you, you can be the 7 dwarfs!!! :rotfl2:

How about dressing them as a pack of Dalmation puppies? You can get white tee shirts and hats and paint black spots on them, wear black shorts and attach a white felt tail with black spots on it to the back. It's cool and comfortable, easy to pack and Disney themed! :thumbsup2

How about getting some inexpensive white t-shirts and pants/jeans, and use different size sponges to dab black fabric paint on them? Voila - dalmatians! I found these (a bit more explicit and accurate) instructions at fabriclink.com/closet (substitute lighter-weight clothing for sweats):
What You Need
White sweatpants
White sweatshirt
Black felt
Craft fur
Scissors
Sewing machine and matching thread (or hand sew)
White ball cap or painters hat
Face makeup in white and black
How To Make It
Cut out any kind of pattern you want on the felt and tack them with thread to the sweats.
Cut the fur in a wide strip, fold it together and sew it. Tack the tail on also.
You can also use a white hat and put "spots" on it as well.
I also used white and black face make up so the face of my child would match he had a spot around his eye.

disclaimer: I thought of dalmatians entirely independently of frndofpooh! In fact, I would have posted first but I was doing the research :teeth:

Awesome ideas! I never would have thought of a "cool" costume like that! Thanks! My family is planning to hit MNSSHP again in 2008, so I will keep track of this idea.

There are 7 - but I hate to think of fake beards and dwarfy costumes in the heat ;) But cute idea, for sure!!!

Maybe we'll just be "a rainbow" - solid colored tees in every color of the rainbow. That would be easy/cool/comfy. We can even get matching crocs for our outfits. :)

I do love the Dalmatian's outfit idea. I'll have to run that by the kids. I imagine it would be pretty easy to do.

Have you tried thinking out of the box a little - maybe dressing them up like the attractions? Like: a safari outfit (Jungle cruise?), pirate (PoTC), maybe a "Mickey bar" theme (tan pants, dark brown shirt and mickey ears?), cowboy outfits (frontier land) - etc?

Just a thought.

Might want to look at threads/websites/pinterest on Disney Bounding for inspiration.

If you're unfamiliar, Disney Bounding is where you wear clothing that evokes a character without being an outright costume. Since adults aren't allowed to wear full costumes into the parks most of the time (except the Halloween parties, mostly), it's a fun solution to adding a bit more Disney spirit into your trip, without breaking Disney's rules. And it's flexible, so you can keep things cool on hot, steamy days!

With two boys, you could do white t-shirts (cut the sleeves jagged if you want), a red sash, and dark pants/shorts to feel a bit like a pirate. Throw on a vest on top, if it isn't TOO hot. Add an eyepatch or a spyglass, if you think your kid(s) will go for it/not lose it. Make it more Jake with blue shorts/pants and a yellow sash. Add a red bandana, too. If your boys are little, you can do something like the dalmatians idea mentioned upthread. White tshirt, black fabric paint, black shorts - instant puppies. What characters appeal to them will largely depend on their ages and tastes... but you can do an inspired-by outfit instead of a full-on costume and keep them cool.

We'll be going to the MNSSHP for the first time this fall, and I'm personally trying to come up with a costume my little guy (age 5) will like as well. He REALLY wants to go as Spiderman, but those costumes with the padded muscles? Really not Florida-weather-compliant....

we have gone the last 4 years and we were so hot the first year. Every year our costumes get "cooler" last year was the best. Although it was non disney is was great for the heat. I don't know how to post a photo here. We were minions we wore yellow hats backwards and had the coke bottle googles/glasses jean shorts and a yellow shirt. we took strips of denim and put it on our shirts for the overalls. it was not the most creative but the coolest costume we have had for the party. this year we are trying mvmcp but I LOVE MNSSHP and i will miss it.

2 years ago my husband was a Roman warrior and I was a Greek goddess. Easy non wrinkle, so good for packing, and very cool.

DD (4) and I are going as pirates pirate:. I am making us tutu type skirts (pirate fabric + tulle), add in a tank top, and a bandanna and we are good! I was also worried about the weather since we will be there in September.
