Costco rotisserie chicken

I rarely get these chickens but grabbed one yesterday for a quick meal. It tasted really weird, almost like muscle. It was firm but not overcooked. I can only describe it like the texture of muscle. I couldn't even eat it. I have had these chickens in the past and I remember them being moist and juicy. I don't think we will buy these anymore.
I bought one the other day with the same off textured. Sadly, I ate some anyway and was horribly sick that evening.

Some places brine their chickens in a salt solution in an effort to plump up the bird and make it retain moisture. If you brine for too long, it can make the texture of meat mushy and taste excessively salty.

I used to get the Costco Chickens, Only had one or two that were less than stellar over the years, but now that they have started using that weird bag that leaks, I won't be getting another. Sam's is right down the road from Costco in my town.

Thankfully, we haven't had any quality issues. I buy them quite often as it's my preschoolers favorite food. He eats it every single day in his lunchbox, and often for dinner too. He always asks for "Costco chicken"

I bought 3 last week and they all seemed perfect. Though I do hate the new packaging!

In a bind, I'll grab one at Ingles and it's always disappointing. Half the size, twice the price, usually dried out.

We've never had any that tasted off, though we're more likely to pick one up at Sam's than Costco simply because Sam's is on the way home from work.

It occurs to me to wonder if unusual taste issues might be the result of someone messing up the equipment cleaning process. I can easily see how perhaps leaving some cleaning solution behind in the oven might do that.

I don't buy Costco rotisserie chicken often, but they are far superior to Kroger. Kroger decimates theirs to a pile of meat dust. They cook it into oblivion, and I eat dark meat!

I've had good luck with my local Meijer rotisserie chicken. I've never tried any others.

My DH loves Meijer rotisserie chicken. :)

Oh, I'll have to try Meijer rotisserie chicken sometime.

My Meijers isn't far, but it is not close either so I rarely go to it unless I need something I know they only carry there (frozen tart cherries, my mitten state store to the rescue!) ;) Now I have something else I may need to go to there for.

Way too salty for me, the family can have it but I can't, so lateIy I usually skip it .... I agree the bag is weirdly leaky now. For low sodium I prefer plain Wegman's or organic Whole Foods, more often though I have been making a habit to just make a giant batch of thighs on the BBQ and use it all week.

... As for the chickens, I've never had a terrible one. But I don't like the new leaky bags.
This!!! The bags suck, but I don't see Costco going back unfortunately. The reasons we don't buy them often now are (a) bags suck (b) lines to get them are annoying (c) until the 2nd store opens in our area Costco is just to busy to "drop by" anymore. Doesn't help that our store sells the most pumpkin pies out of all the Costco stores too.
