Closest Airport to Hilton Head

Can anyone tell me the closest airport to Hilton Head?

Does anyone know which airport would be closest with Southwest?

Savannah, GA, is the closest airport to Hilton Head, I believe. My Rand McNally atlas says it's a 40 mile drive.

If you want to fly Southwest, Jacksonville, FL, is going to be the closest, and then you have a 2+ hour drive to Hilton Head. If you're looking for a low cost alternative, AirTran flies into Savannah.

We have done the drive from Jacksonville to HHI before (airfare is HIGH into SAV from CHicago, with United being the ONLY nonstop) It is a solid 3 hours, ALL TREES!! Not too bad though esp since we saved over 1000 bucks doing it. But I highly reccomend getting a hotel near Jacksonville the night before you leave, that way coming home isnt a long travel day, and I found the extra day of packing up useful (we tossed a lot of stuff in the van for better pack up later... lol) We used a hotel with an airport shuttle and DH dropped the rental car off the night before and took the shuttle back, and we all jumpped on the shuttle in the morning. Worked out nicely.

This summer we are driving the WHOLE way!! (15 hours plus, but a lot cheaper!!!)

Charleston is another airport, about 95 miles north of HHI.

From Toronto, Hilton Head is a pretty easy drive (about 15-16 hours). It will be less expensive than flying, plus you won't need to rent a car when you get there.


I've done the drive a few times, and it is an easy drive (much easier than the DVP or 401).

There's an airport on Hilton Head, but I think it's a private airport. The next closest would be Savannah, but it may be cheaper to fly into Charleston. The drive isn't much worse. I regularly drive between all 3 for work.

You can fly into HHI from Charlotte NC on Air Tran I believe or was it US Air... but flying onto HHI itself adds to the over all cost and both SAV and Charleston are easy drives (on departure day) and Jacksonville via SWA is also not a bad drive on the arrival day, just sucky for a return flight (thus my suggestion of getting a room there for the night...

Last time we checked out of HHI on Friday (when our two bedroom points jump to 66 points for the night) and drive leasurely to Jacksonville, stopping for lunch on the way. We stayed at the hotel right by the airport (cant think of the name, but it had HUGE waterbugs in the pool...ick) and used the shuttle. It made for two easy travel days.
