Car Rental at Amtrak Station in Orlando?

Am I correct in understanding that Hertz is the only car-rental company onsite at the Amtrak station in Orlando? Do any of the other companies have locations that are relatively close downtown? I found a great rate through the Avis office in downtown Orlando, but I'm not certain how close it is to the station.
Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Take a look at this link on MouseSavers - apparently Hertz has a shuttle from the Orlando station, or you can get reimbursement for taking a taxi, but arrangements must be made ahead of time.

I'd take Amtrak to Kissimmee instead of downtown Orlando--that station isn't in the best of neighborhoods. OK during the day, iffy at night.

Avis says that if we'll give them at least 24 hours notice, they'll pick us up at the station (train arrives around noon) from their office two miles away. And I don't think I can beat the price for seven days in November for a small SUV (Pontiac Vibe): Just $142. At the airport, it's more than that.
Can anyone think of a reason that this doesn't make sense?

There are no trains scheduled into Orlando during overnight hours, unless the Sunset is especially tardy, in which case it would probably be turned at Sanford anyway (it has to come all the way from Los Angeles).

I've never really explored beyond the immediate depot area, but saw little to suggest Orlando's Sligh Blvd. station was in an especially "bad" neighborhood. With so many people (mostly fellow tourists) around before/after a trains arrival I can't imagine being insecure. Sure, you would not want to walk off toting luggage at Midnight down unfamiliar streets, but you wouldn't do that almost anywhere.

I have seen this description applied to Amtrak's Miami station (and Memphis prior to its revitilization), though.

Thanks, I too am not too worried about the neighborhood. It's really more a matter of trying to find a convenient solution.
