Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

We have a trip planned and mostly not refundable for November. So we still plan to go unless we feel unsafe. But we were very close to buying DVC (resale) and have put that on hold for the time being. I feel like I'm mourning a little. Disney is my happy place and I'm so sad that we will have to let it go for the foreseeable future.

I feel exactly the same way.

For us, we recently got back from a Disney vacation as it was booked long before the orange turd (am I allowed to post 'turd' Corey?) was even thought to be a winner in the election. It was a week in Disney World, followed by a 7 night cruise on the Treasure. We didn't cancel as it was really a bit late what with flights booked, however we did make some changes to what we would normally do. We did not do any park days. That was big for us. It also saved us several thousands of dollars which did not go into the American economy. Baby steps.

Going forward it will probably be vacations outside of the US, especially as my D-I-L is major big on not spending a dime on US products. That includes her cancelling all her streaming services and not using Amazon. She is going full force. I respect that and will work it along side her but I don't think I will be as die hard as she.
I have two placeholders for DCL and could use them but I would not spend any more than a night at a hotel while in the US. I could use them on a European cruise, time will tell. For the next few years it is very possible that our family will not be spending time in the US but that will all depend on how things play out.

Being Canadian is an important part of who we are and I don't appreciate the taunts that the US President is tossing our way. It's a shame we need to boycott US and their products but he brought the war, we didn't. If the toddler wants to play in the dirt so be it but I will not join along. Sorry to all our American neighbors who didn't vote for this. It has to be hard.

We've also made the "no US travel for four years or until he's gone, whichever comes first" decision for our family, and I'm searching for travel ideas. Where we're stuck is places to go for short trips, especially since we're on the west coast. Our go-to destinations when we have a week or less have been California, Hawaii and New York, as well as cruises out of US ports and American cities with history and distinct character like Savannah and New Orleans. By making the 2.5 hour drive to Seattle, all these places were very easy to access.

I'm having no problem finding great places to go for longer trips since we already love Europe and Asia and had been hoping to get to South America in the next few years, but I can't see doing a 9-10 hour flight for a one week trip!

We love Canada, but I feel like the almost 2 year lockdown of 2020-2022 left us pretty satiated with Canadian travel. Cavendish, Vancouver Island and Quebec city are truly lovely, but if I can use my grocery store points card from home in the local shops it just doesn't seem like a real trip to me.

We are planning to sub out our next California trip with Mexico City since there are direct flights from Vancouver, but most of the other direct flights south from the west coast are to resort areas and we just aren't interested in that type of travel.

Can anyone from the East suggest good vacation locations with direct flights from Toronto or Montreal? I'm thinking that maybe we could combine a couple of days in one of those cities with a southern sun location to make a worthwhile trip. For example, the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique look like they'd be great for independent travel and they have direct flights from Montreal, but they've never really been on my radar.

I'd love to hear other ideas for interesting places that aren't too hard to access for Canadians.

Anyone cross the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia this week? Any issues with border guards or shopping in the Port Huron area with Ontario license plates? 🤔

With YVR as a starting airport it is a bit harder (its hard for YYZ) when it comes to Central and South America travel. If you are looking for Mexico without the resort trappings Merida, Monterrey and Guadalajara are options. Would require a transit of some kind but doable. If I cannot get World Cup tickets to Toronto I am going to go to Monterrey. No interest in any of the American host cities in summer and Denver did not make the list. So that was a choice before 'him'. Vancouver would be too expensive and have already done a mega event in Vancouver.

When I was flying home from Auckland a Kiwi on the plane was going to LA for 5 days. 15 hour flights each way. We bounded over our choice of compression grippy socks and got talking. That is insanity to me.

When I was looking at nonstop flights from YVR, one option was 14 hours to Bangkok and I found myself thinking "hmm..."
We're actually hoping to do NZ soon, which is also 14 hours nonstop but that will definitely be more than a week.

I'm going from South-East Asia to the US for about five days. I live in South-East Asia and am going back for a family event and don't really have extra time I want to spend there (most of my family are not from where the event is taking place and are only there for the days around the event, so I'd be by myself unless I wanted to add more domestic/transborder flights). It's not ideal but it's okay (I'll also be in business class so able to sleep and be comfortable).

We cancelled our trip for next September. There’s no hope for flight refund ( as they were westjet ultra basic fare) . Our Bonnet Creek renter returned our money and also refunded the cancellation fee. They totally understood and were apologetic and kind to us. That made me cry.

The whole thing hurts but there would be no way we could enjoy ourselves with the current sentiment. Honestly, I had to shove aside a lot of my personal ethics to keep going to Florida as it was. This is just the nail in the coffin.

I’m fully expecting much more than Tarriffs. With today’s announcements on declaring a “National Emegency on Electricity “ we are looking at the pretext for putting troops on those states borders. We’ve gone past rhetoric and I can’t believe this is where was are. It’s been real Disney … thanks for the memories.
We finally made the tough decision to eat the airfare and cost of tickets to see the Raptors play the Phoenix Suns next week. We take an annual trip down South to catch a game (we had a great time in OKC last year) and this one had been planned since last October. Who could have imagined so much would change since then? Combined with the absolutely sickening exchange rate right now, we just didn’t have the heart to go. We leave tomorrow morning for a road trip West through Kelowna and on to the Coast instead. It’s been quite a while since we vacationed in BC and we’re going to try and make the best of it.
Can you request a credit from WJ ? I am
Not familiar with the ultra-basic fare.
You can request anything you want, but the odds aren’t good. I tried and even as a fairly high-volume WestJet Rewards member, the answer was flat NO. :(

Crossed last week and there were no issues. I was a little worried about parking my car in Detroit for a week since Ford was announcing the electricity tax which would affect the state of MI. The US customs agent at the airport was joking with us, calling us fake Canadians as she asked us about the Leafs and we told them we are not hockey fans.

We picked a bad year to book 3 trips to WDW, but all flights are paid for and non-refundable so we are going. Looking at visiting the non-US Disney parks over the next few years.

We had a DVC trip planned for this spring. I cancelled it. I dont feel comfortable driving in the states with Canadian driving plates. My husband is not a US citizen so I dont want to risk it. Only way I would attempt going is we fly to Orlando and stay in the Disney bubble.

We decided for now to rent out our points till things calms down.

For any Americans reading this. This has nothing to do with the people. I’ve been in at least 30 overnight trips to the USA and in those I’ve only ever had one bad experience with an American to the point I felt unsafe and uncomfortable (and it was Americans that helped me out of that situation too). I absolutely want to go back to WDW, DL. Back to Colorado. Visit some of the national parks. Finally go on an Alaskan cruise. But I am also a proud Canadian. I’ve been a nationalistic Canadian since well before it was cool. In a climate where we are being attacked. Where one person is trying to erode almost 100 years of cooperation that took some of our greatest leaders to build. I just can’t support that or support the economy down there or allow my presence to condone this.

Hopefully this is a transitory hiccup in a relationship that continues.

For those brave enough to go please report back on what ID you had to carry with you at all times. Sounds like for those who are registered they have to carry some document with you at all times.

I strongly recomend getting a Nexus pass, it does make things easier crossing at the border and at the airports.

I think that's only for those going for more than 30 days. Right now there isn't anything different for travel.

As an American, I understand this 100%. I fully support all Canadiens boycotting the USA and its products. I am sick about what is going on here.

My DH and I will be traveling to Montreal in 2 weeks and we can hardly wait. We absolutely love Canada and have been to many wonderful locations over the years.

I know many, many Americans who feel like I do. You have our full support.

Yes, there are obviously still some long lines. That said, Touring Plans uses statistical data. Hard facts, not hype. And the facts are that crowds are way down this week compared to a typical March Break in previous years.
Just returned from a week long vacation. Agreed, the parks were noticeably less busy compared to our 2024 march break trip, especially MK. Our resort was still at capacity and we did see quite a few fellow Canadians. All in all another great vacation. On a side note, our interactions with Americans was just as positive and polite as it's always been.

Not to dispute or provide negative feedback on your comment, and this is only to mention a point of fact, but we just came back from WDW/ Universal today and it was as packed with Quebecers (last week- their March Break) and Ontarians (is that a word?) this week as ever. However, the beginning of spring break in the surrounding states that usually causes the heavy crowds to start up is one week later this year because Easter is later. That’s why TP had that lower crowd prediction up a year ago- well before there was even an election happening down south.
