I posted in a previous thread that I would allow temporary discussions about how the current environment impacts decisions on traveling to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. First, I apologize to the OP for the derailment. I meant well, but it did not work.

This is the ONLY thread dedicated to Canadian residents, and it is the only place where members can discuss this topic openly and without personal attacks on other members.

I will personally monitor and respond to reports.

We usually fly WestJet using a WJ CC and companion voucher. I was looking ahead on flight schedules and from Toronto to Orlando and it looks like the direct 1000 am flights are gone as well as the 2pm return flights. It’s either early or late for direct flights.

I admit our decision was to not travel South this year for the first time in a couple of decades. We do own a couple of timeshares in Orlando and paying the maintenance fees after dollar conversion was painful enough. Adding on the trip costs with the current economic climate was more than we wanted to pay.
We (mostly DW) also had concerns as well about driving North-South twice across the US with Ontario plates. That may be unwarranted (fears often are) and I would love to hear back from others who did drive down this year to hear how it went. This could go a long way to easing our minds for a next trip. Note: it's not about feeling safe ad WDW, that always feels safe; more it's the 4,500 km of open road to get there and back. I remember our trip home in March 2020 with COVID just starting to rage and how isolated that drive can feel.
I will say we spent all day Saturday (Friday/Saturday would have been our traditional travel dates) playing the "where would we be now" game and imagining that trip. Probably not healthy for my mental state and adding to my sense of regret.

Hi, we cancelled our March trip, supposed to fly out tomorrow! Mostly because of my DW medical issues combined with the added stress of the political situation. Had coffee today with three friends who all love going to Florida, only one is still going as he has a condo rented. He too is worried about the drive down. As we are all 65 plus we were joking we can’t wait 4 years to go! Need to find another place to winter vacation.

Hi
I'll be meeting with our Investment company this week to "shed" some light on our current friendly safe investments.

Our current DVC ownership is being discussed also.
I do have a DVC Trip already booked for next winter but it looks like it's off the table at time time.
Alternative travel looks to be in the cards for us.
Sad.

We head down to California in two weeks for some time in the 'Disney bubble' and it cannot come soon enough! I was in California a couple weeks ago for a work trip and the climate was extremely welcoming as Canadians. They were thrilled to see us and treated us very kindly.

Well the stock market might wake up those who don't seem to care about what's going on. As others note, people only care when it impacts on their own money. So vote with your wallet. And that's the best you can do as an individual.

In addition to the market generally, at least one Canadian airline has announced large numbers of cancellations of trips to America and Delta’s stock took a huge hit after hours when they noted weaker overall travel demand and cut their earnings estimates in half.

I’m a Disneyland local and I don’t think there is much intentionally hostile anti-Canadian sentiment around here (especially contrasted with Florida), but you still will find a lot of clueless people who think it’s funny to joke about making Canada the 51st state. Shamefully, some of the right of center tv news outlets (and pundits) are increasingly promoting unhinged news stories about fentanyl labs in Canada and just generally trying to brainwash their viewers into believing Trump is justified in targeting Canada with tariffs.
