Canadian Buffoon's DISmeet vacation - 09/14 - Bowled Over

Very cool that you finally have a break and hope you enjoy it immensely!!
Oh, man, did I ever.
I really needed that.

Me, afterwards:

Because we all saunter instead of sashay. Means we're smarter. I could tell you my IQ if you'd prefer.
:rotfl2:

'Fraid not.
Sashayers have been scientifically
proven to be more intelligent.

I remember it,
'cause I'm the one who
made it up.

Nothing wrong with that at all.

:)

I'm trying. I know you weren't talking to me, though.

Technically,
I was talking to everyone.

And by often, you mean all the time?

Well....... yeah!

Okay there boys and girls.
I'm all caught up
(as of this moment.
In the next, I won't be)
on all your threads
and on shout outs here.

I'd hoped to get another
update up before I leave
on a much needed vacation
but I highly doubt
that's gonna happen.

You never know,
but don't hold your
collective breaths.

I skedaddle early
Monday morning
and doubt I'll be on
much if at all
until I get back
about 10 days later.

I'd love to go to PEI...
Just costs me an arm
and a leg.
And Disney's already
taken those, so.... :confused3

I totally understand! There are so many places in Canada I'd love to visit, but having the money and the time... That, and every time we think about going somewhere, we go, "yes...but Disney..." so I'm pretty sure it takes us at least twice as long to see new places.

Enjoy every moment of your vacation!

I've been to most provinces
(and one territory, briefly)
but the maritimes are
so darn pricey to get to!
Last year Elle and I
really lucked out with
a seat sale.

Enjoy every moment of your vacation!

That's the plan, ma'am!

Hey Pkondz,

Just wanted to say hello and let you know I am still here. Finally got caught up on your TR. School has been taking so much of my time. I finally have a bit of a break over summer. I had one class that just finished up last week and then only have 2 more classes that are online for the rest of the summer. That will let me breath a tad until fall semester starts.

Love the museums you went to. Sucks the Garden was closed, but even the look from above seemed relaxing. Not huge on racing myself...but the steering wheel story was pretty awesome. Can't believe they just took it off and gave it to that boy.

Starting to plan my graduation trip in Sept/Oct of 2019. Haven't gotten very far other than possible dates and knowing that I wanted it to be almost 2 weeks. Not sure it will all be Disney yet or not, but well, I have trouble NOT being at Disney so, yeah, prolly will be.

Hey Pkondz,

Well, hi there stranger! :)

Just wanted to say hello and let you know I am still here.

Hi! Welcome back!

School has been taking so much of my time. I finally have a bit of a break over summer. I had one class that just finished up last week and then only have 2 more classes that are online for the rest of the summer. That will let me breath a tad until fall semester starts.

Will the online classes be a bit easier?
Or will the fact that they're online
make them more difficult?

Love the museums you went to.

Thanks! :)

Sucks the Garden was closed, but even the look from above seemed relaxing.

Wish it had been open,
but at least I got to see it,
if not walk through it.

Not huge on racing myself...but the steering wheel story was pretty awesome. Can't believe they just took it off and gave it to that boy.

"Whoops! Sorry, I dropped it.
Looks like I broke it."

Actually I've seen at least once
where an upset driver
has thrown it.
Betting the owner
wasn't too happy about that.

Getting closer! :)
Any ideas on where else
you'd like to go other than Disney?

Okay there boys and girls.
I'm all caught up
Well...
We can't have that now can we?

So I think I'll just throw out a whole bunch of “stuff”
(and if you're smart, you'll ignore it entirely).

First off…
A little bit of current business.

I skedaddle early
Monday morning
and doubt I'll be on
much if at all
until I get back
about 10 days later.
Enjoy the adventure.
Heading out to distant lands ourselves, but not for several days yet.
We're all looking forward to that.

Look what came in the mail last night.

Guess I’m all set to make some pie.
It'll have to wait until I get back, though.
Mmmmmm...
Key Pie!
DW makes a "quickish"/"cheaters" version of that stuff that’s just as enjoyable as the more traditional stuff (to us , at least)

Second off…
A bit of old business (very old)…

Nope. Not jumping off.
Either my parachute
or pop up hang glider
will come into play.
No good spy would be caught without at least one of those on hand.

So, what’s you code name: 00P?

Four!
Then again...
Until recently we had
three Hondas, so...
(oldest DD took one)
Yep, four.
They make a V6 that is particularly hard to kill off.
Combine that with my penchant for not getting rid of older cars and you end up with a yard full.
But, they all run. I drive the 20-year-old one daily. The 15-year-old one takes the boy back and forth between home and the mountains (and both of those have over 200k on the odometers). The 19-year-old van is the spare and does all the hauling jobs. Leaving the “new” one (only a miniscule 6 years old) to look after the missus (cause regardless of her protests, I make sure she always has the best one on the lot).

Now that song is in my head.
You’re welcome…

(and consider that I could have tossed out fare worse ear worms if I were in a truly vicious mood)

Clearly a better choice than inviting me to the party.

But what are orange rolls?
Basically they’re cinnamon rolls, but using orange zest and a smidgen of the juice as the flavoring in the dough and icing rather than cinnamon.

Or you can cheat and use the whomp-biscuit variety.
(which are still pretty good and not near as much work)

I think I saw 48 hours once....
And maybe not all of it.
I think I can say the same thing.
Don’t know if I could conjure up even one quite from the film…

But I remember the bus boys

Yuss! I'm in the club!
Standards of membership are set somewhat on the low side…

Saw that.
They should give her free
hot dogs for life.
Why not?
Seconded!

All in favor…

I really like
the Ferrari.
I’d certainly “settle” for one.

After that?
Hard to pick, but maybe
the Jag?
I figure you’re talking about the E-Type.
Also some fine wheels indeed

But I’ll have the XK.

Ok, that takes care of the old business…
Now on to the “most recent” update
(which I’m only now getting around to).

Oh, wait... there's this one thing:

Some sort of...
theme park.
Well, that’s actually in a different city…
so you could still say that there’s nada to do in LA if the mood so strikes you.

People should automatically
move aside when I approach.
It's just something that needs
to happen.
Don't you agree??
Just a natural function of rank.

So how are the masses coming along on the construction of your pyramid?

And I couldn't figure out what I was looking at!
I mean... okay, I can see Snoozing Trollop's castle,
but what the heck is that other thing.
I’m voting for the Matterhorn on that one.

(“Snoozing Trollop”… <<snicker>>)

"No, it doesn't have that bend
at the top." I replied.
It does if you see it from either far side of the hang gliders at Epcot.

Kari saved the day.
She glanced over,
and immediately said:
"Grizzly Peak"
Well…
If you’re going to pick something that makes sense, then I suppose that’s acceptable too.
But still…

Okay, back to the present.
Or at least the present
that is now in the past
but what I will presently
talk about...
Spoken like seasoned a politician.

Right away, (at least this is how I feel)
you're transported into an idyllic
Everytown, circa 1950.
Where everybody knows your name
and they're always glad you came...
NORM!!!

Err…
I mean..
PKONDZ!!!

And no one has a care in the world.
(And then they charge you
twelve bucks for a Coke.)
And without adding in the original active ingredient, for Peat’s Sake!

Right away, my eye got caught
by a pretty floral display.
…and just how that elephant got into my pajamas I’ll never know.

After a visit to the first aid
station, they pronounced my eye
saved and I set out once more.
Pixie Dust..
a true cure all.

Are you sure it can't wait, because...

"COFFEE!!!!"
Coffee don’t need no reason.

So anyway, I thought we might
stop in case anyone wanted
a coffee or something.
Considerate to a fault, you are.

We got in line at the glorified Starbucks
That should be: Charbucks.
Nomenclature is important.

(but then again “$tarbucks” is also acceptable.)

A true sashay takes years
of dedication and practice
and few master.
So, then we could say that as an artist you prefer to work in sashay.
It’s your true medium.

And when Liesa pointed out
that there was a grand total
of two people in line for Dole whips...
With a line so inconsequential it would have been immoral to just walk by.
No sense in being immoral.

I know. I know.
I'm an amazingly generous
human being and probably
deserve saint-hood.
Making you the patron saint of lost poker chips, perhaps?

Or maybe the patron of the constipated.

Well, you're wrong.
Of course we are…
The most fundamental part of being human is being wrong.

And thus endeth the educational
component of this chapter.
And yet we’ll continue to learn.
(mostly from our mistakes, but learn none the less)

I parted company with the ladies
and explored the ship.
And I for one appreciate that.
(Chances are good, they appreciated the break as well  )

Nice images of the ship

Another thing I've never done.
In either park.
Tom Sawyer Island.
Have enjoyed that respite a number of times over the years (at WDW at least)
Lots of shade and cool places to chill.
And the Fort is just flat out awesome.
Anyone can just be a kid again.
poking around the parapets
scurrying down through the escape tunnels
the whole place id… errr… I mean… IS… just a hoot.

Well, ya gotta hand it to her,
she knows a good photo op
when she sees it too.
Yep, good photo palm…

I did take one more photo.
I got a kick out of this:

P1040610_zpsnko8ejhm.jpg
Imagingineering at its best.
It’s always the details that most entertainer me on Dis properties.

You deplane,
but don't deboat.
You disembark.
Is this a throwback
to when ships were all
wood construction?
Or when dogs ruled
the seas?
And you said the educational part of the update had endeth…
Silly you.

of course, the difference is related to the age differential of the two modes of transportation, the idiosyncrasies of French (and the habit of English to absorb words from other languages), but the notion of Salty Dogs (similar to that of poker playing dogs) is more entertaining…

After our boat/ship/bark ride,
Nice Dis-Pun there, sir…

A reason to go back!
You need a reason?

But I've since learned that the
DL versions are far superior.
To quote Artie Johnson: Very interesting…

Wonder why that is?
(‘cause, to be sure, the fritters at WDW are pretty much something to be avoided)

I wonder how many men have died
over the centuries because
they were too proud (aka: stupid)
to just say "Nope!"
Too vast a number for even astronomers to grasp…

Even the Romans knew this to be true.
It is they who knowingly first devised the definitive aphorism on the subject:

Tacebo Cervisiam; Vigilate Mecum

Attests to the vast lengths of time for which this has been an accepted fact.

When they expanded DL,
they had to make
the train go around it.
This marked the first time
that the train turned left.
How gauche…
such a sinister thing to do.

(more learning, by the way)

And we all had to
do what Liesa wanted,
whether we wanted to or not.
“It’s good to be the king…”

what better way to digest
than to go on a very herky jerky
Indiana Jones Adventure?
Dinosaur by any other name would smell as “sweet”…

Surprisingly, nobody puked.

I'll call that a win.
So would the CMs on duty at the time.

And... did you see it?
The dude that was de-training, you mean?

More facts in this TR
than you can shake a stick at!

Which, by the way,
is a phrase that originated
in the early 1900s
when cars were started
by using the gearshift...
or stick.
Hummmm…
Not so sure I’ll be buying into that one…

Look what came in the mail last night.

Guess I’m all set to make some pie.
It'll have to wait until I get back, though.

Wow, that looks familiar.

Maybe because I've used it before.

Nah, that's not it.

Maybe because I have some in the fridge.

Nah, that's not it.

Maybe because you posted it on another board.

DING DING DING...that's the winner!
:rotfl2:

I would say enjoy, but I'm not sure how one could not enjoy a home made key lime pie. Having to wipe up drool just talking about it.

Well...
We can't have that now can we?

Yes we can...
but just for a second.

So I think I'll just throw out a whole bunch of “stuff”
(and if you're smart, you'll ignore it entirely).

Obviously not smart,
so obviously not going to ignore it.

The bad news is I'll have to wait
about two weeks to try.
The good news is I'll be on vacation
during that time.

What are your dates?
We’ll be operating out of the Kingston, Washington area (I have kin out that way) from the 14th through the 20th. Will likely be in the area of Port Angeles/Olympic N.P. around the 16th

Sounds good.
I'll do whats on the bottle.
Good plan.

But if there’s a call for meringue to top it with... Ignore that (Yuck!).
Whip cream would be better, and no topping would probably be best.

Shhh....

Not quite right however.
They always use your

p00P.
That's me.

 Cat’s already out of the bag on that one, I do believe.

Ridiculous tangent: your choice of code name there made me think of a Saturday-Morning Toon that I watched as a young’en that was a satirized riff on the Spy craze. Ever heard of Cool McCool? The very beginning of the opening credits seems like it would work near as perfectly for “p00P” as it did for “Cool”. (well… I said it was a ridiculous tangent.)

And do not go there!
Dang! No fun allowed…

Okay, Ralphie! You win this time, but we'll be back!

Obviously, if I'm in it.
I would never consider joining a club that would consent to having me as a member…

Not very well.
Some dude came
and parted the Red River

Hate it when that happens.

Was there some bloke named DeMille hanging around with a camera?
That yutz is a real instigator, I tell ya’…

Well, considering that's illegal...
Details... Details!

Thought you’d enjoy that one.

Absolutely!
Amoral... maybe.
But immoral? Never!
We must maintain at least a thin vail of decorum.

No. You're wrong.
Wow!
You’re only the third or fourth person that ever accepted that I might even be human.

Sorry, should have had a
warning label on that part.
That part?
Isn’t there a general hazard and potential carcinogen warning label that’s already applied by the government to the entire TR already?

Well.... no.
But it makes it easier to justify.
Yeah, that whole justification part of the equation fouls up many of my better ideas.

Ah, ha!
So I wasn't wrong.
Well, - “I” - agreed with you.
Not sure just how well that’ll hold up in a court of law (or opinion)

"Passing beer; watch with"

:rotfl: Close enough!!
The translator I used to put that together a while back converts it as:

Hold my beer; watch me.

As you said, close enough

Yep.
And yet...

I think I prefer Indy.
I may also (for the themeing), but until I can get out that way, it’ll just be a mystery.

de-training is usually followed
by un-employment.
So is simply having too many birthdays down this way, but I try to not think about that.

Google it.
Did…
First reference in news print dates back to around 1818 (and is likely older).
Just a smidgen before Karl Benz was tinkering in his garage.

But if there’s a call for meringue to top it with... Ignore that (Yuck!).
Whip cream would be better, and no topping would probably be best.

I don't mind meringue... but it belongs on lemon meringue pie, not key lime.
I think the bottle's instructions are for some whipping cream on top.

 Cat’s already out of the bag on that one, I do believe.

::yes::

Of course.
But I do like to warn people
when it gets particularly bad.

Well, - “I” - agreed with you.

Still counts.

The translator I used to put that together a while back converts it as:

::yes::

It took me a second...
but then the nickel dropped!

I may also (for the themeing), but until I can get out that way, it’ll just be a mystery.

Well there's your justification. :)

So is simply having too many birthdays down this way, but I try to not think about that.

Really?
I found this:

In the early 1970s, about half of all Americans were covered by
mandatory-retirement provisions requiring they leave their jobs
no later than a certain age, usually 65.
In 1986, Congress abolished mandatory retirement
by amending the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

Does that no longer apply?

Did…
First reference in news print dates back to around 1818 (and is likely older).
Just a smidgen before Karl Benz was tinkering in his garage.

Huh! Well, I'll be...

So...
Went to a football game last night.
First off, my team won.
Always a plus.

Couple of notable happenings:
1. My sister was in town.
She’s the big football fan in the family.
Our cousin asked us to join him
for a tailgate. Sure!

AEBB29C6-053D-42DF-B90C-E841CD1E00C9.jpeg

2. One player, Bighill, had a big night.
Two interceptions including
one run back for a touchdown.
His family was seated in the row in
front of us.
Here’s his son:

There were about half a dozen of them
wearing “Bighill” jerseys.
Except his daughter.

Awwww...

Adventure Time

adventure-time_zpsppt9pmnm.jpg

No. Not that Adventure Time.
And if you have no idea
what I'm talking about...
Consider yourselves lucky.
And to be honest...
I don't really, either.
I just know Kay used
to watch that when she
was about the size
of a football.

No, it was time for
California Adventure!

We made the grueling,
arduous trek from Disneyland,
eventually arriving at our destination.

P1040634b_zpsvtqriyeo.jpg

If memory serves...
Who am I kidding,
I have no clue what we did
when we got there.
I think we went to the Hyperion next.
But maybe we did something else first?

Look at that sky!
Beautiful blue!
Little puffy clouds!

Wait a second.......

LIES!!!!

(As an aside...
I love the trolley-car wires.)

Well, whatever the weather
and whenever the time,
we piled into the theater
and jostled for seats.

I found the perfect seat
and sat down.
Kari told me to move,
so I slid down one spot.
Still, pretty perfect.
Alison told me I was in her seat,
so I slid down one more.
Not the best seat
(or second best)
in the house, but it'll do.
Liesa told me to get my
butt out of her seat
and I found myself
relegated to the cheap seats.

These ladies don't fool around!

Or maybe they do?
I wouldn't know.

The show
(Frozen Alive,
a tale of horror and survival...
or something like that)
was very well done.
I really enjoyed it.
I'm not sure if I enjoyed
the theatrics or the theater more.
The staging was really well done.
They even pumped fumes
from sliced onions into the air
to make your eyes water!

Being a man, I'm quite sure
that the story had nothing
to do with the waterworks.

I noticed that at least Liesa and Alison
also were affected.
So you can ask them.

Onions, right?

Right.

::yes::

After the show,
we all were in need of
some lighter entertainment
so we headed over to Guardians.

Fun ride!
While I absolutely do not
want them to touch TOT
in DHS...
This one was really good.

It was a bit dull at times
and I may have nodded off...

But the ladies
(only Alison and Liesa.
Kari skipped it in favour
of RSR.)
seemed to be pretty pumped.

After being treated like a yo yo
for a few minutes,
it was time to get our race on.
We made our way over to RSR
and met back up with Kari, there.

Dang, I love this ride.
Kari was on an unbeaten streak,
but she'd never ridden with the
rest of us before.
We brought her back down to Earth.

Yeah... we lost.

I think it was because
Liesa and I were acting
as air brakes.

Slowed us down so much
that it put Alison to sleep
and cost us the race.

Sorry, Kari.

We found a spot for a bite
and settled in to eat and chat.
Before we knew it,
time had marched on
and Kari had to leave.

It was really nice meeting you, Kari! :)

Our remaining trio made our
way to find spots for Paint the Night parade.
We found a spot and claimed it
for our own.
It was a bit cool so Liesa went off
to find something a bit warmer.
She came back looking like this:

I may have sadly shaken
my head at her.
She couldn't shake her head back.

The parade was fun to watch,
even if the company I was with
seemed to take the concept
from the Frozen Alive play
personally.

Apologies for the blurry photos,
I didn't have my good camera
with me this trip.

And with that, my Disney time was over.
I said my sad goodbyes to my friends,
and we parted ways.

Always a pleasure to see you two,
Alison and Liesa.

The next day was travel day.
I did have a bit of time to
grab a few more poker chips,
bringing my total for the trip
up to seven.

A quick car return,
an uneventful flight.
And I'm back home again.

In case you missed it:

All aboard!

Coming up:
Back to the road trip!
(You forgot, didn't you?)

And... did you see it?
Did you see both of them?
