Can resale points transferred to direct purchase account be used at Riviera?

Tried searching and didn’t see anything specifically on this subject. If I have a direct from Disney contract, can I transfer points from someone with a resale contract (non-Riviera) into my account and use them at Riviera, since it’s restricted?

It’s the points that carry the restrictions so if they can’t be used for RIV now, transferring them doesn’t change that.

It doesn’t matter what else you own. The only resale points eligilbe for RIV are those bought prior to Jan 2019. Those would work if transferred to you.

And the general rule: transferred points ALWAYS retain their applicable resort identity, use year, expiration date, date by which they must be banked, and whatever restrictions, resale or otherwise, that they had before being transferred. In other words, when you get transferred points, what site and use year account you actually put them in is irrelevant to determining how they can be used, except for one added prohibition -- they can never be borrowed.

The short answer is no.

I have one membership with two "contracts" on it, one pre-restriction and one-post restriction. The post-restricted points always retain the limit on new resorts regardless of where/who they are transferred to.

DVC made sure there is no method to use points beyond what is stated on their contract. No method exists to change home priority. No method exists that lifts any type of existing restriction.

One time use points are a different story. I found out recently that even when buying from a contract/membership that has booking restrictions, these OTUP don’t have any trading restrictions because they originated from DVD (who doesn’t have any restrictions on their points). But this is limited to 24 points. So if I buy them to use with my resale BWV contract, only these 24 points could book RIV. Not very helpful in the grand scheme.

Just to clairfy for others, OTU points are not different than any other points. They carry the same rules as every other points out there.

They are direct points and thus unrestricted
which can book everything. I think where it gets confusing is people think about the owner and not the points.

So, you can be a resale owner who owns points that don’t trade, but that plays no role in your ability to use points within your membership that you get…via transfer, OTU points, or new points bought direct, that are restriction free.

interesting…. This means if you’re renting out transferred points to someone, it might behoove a person to list whether their points are pre- or post- restriction points.

I have always informed the rental company whether my points are restricted on not. I usually rent out the restricted points if I have extra points and save the unrestricted points for me. (My ownership is at AK so the restrictions aren't as limited as say Riviera would be.) As far as I can tell, the major rental companies do not price the points differently.
