Can i use dcl logo on a shirt??

I am thinking about making a shirt that says "Keep Calm and Cruise On" with DCL logo on op instead of the crown. Would that be copyright infringement?? I have seen others using it and selling the rhinestone appliqués on etsy. But this shirt is strictly for my use only and I am not planning on selling them to make a profit. I'm also letting the local screen print company to produce the shirt for me but they told me they can do it as long as any image that I use is not copyrighted. Can someone help me?????

If you make the graphic and the shirt yourself, you can do it. Personal use is OK.

I would think the DCL logo is copyrighted. Many companies that make a profit printing shirts cannot legally print a shirt with a copyrighted image. That's why they are copyrighted, so other non-Disney companies cannot make money using them.

If it is a copyrighted or trademarked/servicemarked or otherwise protected logo or image, it's use is prohibited for any purpose; doesn't matter if you are selling them to other people or not. Whether they care or sue you, is highly unlikely.

I'm sure the outline of Mickey is protected too, but I can't imagine Disney investing the time, energy or money to stop it. Corporate logos and images are used without permission all the time. They'd be within their rights, but probably completely impractical and unlikely.

Over on the Creative DISigns board there are MANY disigners who have Disney-inspired creations. As long as they make them (at no charge) for people to print for personal use, and no one is making a profit from the use of them, Disney really doesn't do anything.

Anyone making a profit from making/creating these items, has been stopped. I know of at least one DISigner who was told to stop and now she only does non-Disney stuff.

And I remember a news article about Disney taking a (for profit) nursery school to court for having Disney characters painted on their classroom walls.

Yes, Disney does sue, but, thus far, they haven't sued any private parties making t-shirts or magnets for their personal use.

Thank you all so much! I guess I'll just do the crown with "keep calm" phrase and will make my own Mickey head iron on for the front pocket. I saw someone wearing the "keep calm" shirt (not the cruise one) and I thought that would be cool to make a shirt for it!

I just ordered hoodies from Custom Ink and was called today about the restrictions (for them at least). I had a hand drawn picture of the Wonder and the words "The xxxx Family" "Wonder to Alaska"

For my artwork, they had to remove the small Mickey heads that were drawn on the funnels and for the text, they had to add the word "cruise", a preposition and the full name of the ship... As in "The xxx Family Cruise" "on the Disney Wonder"

They said these restrictions come from Disney. I'm pretty sure the DCL logo would not be allowed as well, though I didn't have that on my artwork.
