I keep hearing ads for it on the radio. I want to pack up all of our VHS tapes and have them converted. My sister lost her son last month, and many of the tapes are her kids growing up. I would love to be able to give them to her. She never owned a video camera, so the tapes we had were my mom's and I somehow ended up with the box of them They have all of "nana's" grandchildren as they grew up in the 90's.

There were specific moments we know we got on video, I would love for my sister to have. I don't have a working VHS player anymore.

I don't know about that service specifically, but my sister did that with her photos/tape/and 8mm movies for our mother a number of years ago. I believe she had it done at WalMart. It looks great and it's really nice. She had copies made for all the kids as well as for mom.

I also have wanted to do this for awhile, but have never looked into it. An interesting concept!:thumbsup2

It cost about $600, but with the 40% discount advertised, it is just under $400. I think I will look into the PP mention of Walmart.

I used them a couple of years ago before Christmas. Starting about now they will have a lot of specials like 50-60% off. Look for one of those codes as it is pretty expensive. I think I gave them my email on their website and they started sending me stuff.

I did a combination of VHS, 8mm and pictures to put on a DVDs. After you pay they send you a big box and barcodes to put on each of your items (as many as you purchased) You return
everything and they ship it back to you in a few weeks. The closer it gets to Christmas the longer it takes.

I gave my husband and each of my kids a DVDs made from VHS tapes when they were little. I gave my dad one made from old photos when him and my mom were younger.

I have used them. I was terrified because these were 50+ year old family film (one of Disneyland in 1956). They were AWESOME! We received constant updates on where the film was in the process and we got them back sooner than we expected. It takes weeks so if doing for holidays do asap.

We used them via a Groupon saving a huge amount of money. Once you initiate they sent us a box with all the stuff inside to ship them the film. Now they put EVERYTHING on the same DVDs ... some was my family and some was DH so I learned my lesson I should have sent as two different orders so they were not mixed up.

I have another Groupon now I am going to send the rest of the film in. It is via Southtree, which is the same company, but had a better offer.

I can't say anything about Legacy Box since I've never heard of them but many public libraries still have VCRs and it would be easy enough to record a tape to a smartphone or laptop since cameras are frequently built in.
Years back I had various family pictures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, transferred, and edited, by a company called Modernage on 57th Street in NYC. They also offered other medium transfer services but I've no idea if they are still located in the same place.

Some years ago I bought a machine at Best Buy that has a VHS player and DVD burner for the purpose of copying the tapes to disc. Not sure if they still make it but it was only $200 or so. If you have a lot of tapes it could be pretty handy...and you'd have a deck that could play tapes and DVDs.
