So we don’t do breakfast often but thinking for Christmas morning it might be nice. We are staying at the Boardwalk and Trattoria has a nice breakfast but Kona has Tonga Toast (never had but heard about it)? What would you recommend

I'd stick with Trattoria. Convenient to BW.
Tonga Toast is legendary. But it's often a one and done kind of thing. It is incredibly sweet and might be a bit too much so.

Personally, I have eaten breakfast at both places and you can't go wrong with eaither. However, my preference is Trattorio al Forno. My wife and I have enjoyed breakfast there a few times and always request one of their few outdoor tables. It's a great way to start the day - enjoying breakfast outdoors and looking out over the boardwalk, water and the Beach Club. Plus, I love their breakfast pizza!!

I just had breakfast at both in September. I was very disappointed with Trattoria. It was expensive for what we got and not that good. Kona, on the other hand, has dishes that can be split. We love Kona!!! The macadamia nut pancakes are fabulous too

We love Trattoria for breakfast!!!
The Sunrise Breakfast Pizza and Al Forno egg dish are some of the best food we've had at Disney. We didn't find it expensive (almost exact same prices as Kona) and it was very filling.

Kona was fine, best part was the coffee.

Agree with most peoples postings Kona Café if you just want that really sweet dessert like Tonga Toast but trattoria was surprisingly very good and a little more low-key.

I like Trattoria Al Forno. I get the Freshly Harvested Fruit Plate and enjoy it.

Not a fan of Kona and never been to Trattotia but in that area we enjoy Ale & Compass at YC and Cape May at BC. If you want resorts near the other parks favorites are Boma at AKL and Whispering Canyon Cafe at WL.

We prefer Trattoria. I get two eggs, sausage and substitute potatoes for a mickey waffle.

The French Press coffee pot and orange juice are also excellent

I think both are fine options. What are your plans for the day? I'd probably opt for a lazier morning and breakfast close to home. I'd also give Trattoria the edge food-wise - though, full disclosure the Tonga Toast doesn't appeal to me. If you want something extra special celebratory & also close to home, maybe look into the newly opened Cake Bake Shop on the Boardwalk? Also agree with previous posters that Ale & Compass across the lake is another nice option.

I agree with all of this. DW and I are local and we love eating breakfast at Trattorio al Forno outside. And we love the breakfast pizza as well!

we were at Kona in April. . . used to love going there and haven't been there in a looooong time like 15 years. lol. our meal stunk. All 4 of us didn't like our food. The tongo toast tasted like it was frozen and warmed up or something. eggs sucked. toast was sitting around for a while I sense. just junky compared to years ago. we were so excited to go too. too bad. . .

Rosa Mexicano at the Dolphin is also excellent! The omelets you can order with the hot buffet are huge and so good!

How does parking work if we choose to eat at Rosa’s? The regular parking fee at the Swolphin is steep!

I'm not sure about that. I know some of the restaurants will validate your parking, but not sure if Rosa's does that.

I'd stick with Trattoria Al Forno. You can get Tonga Toast during breakfast at the Polynesian quick service if you ever want to try it.

I'm not a fan of Tonga Toast and my view on Kona is turned off a bit because we were sat next to the waiter station the only I've been there, but my wife and I went to Trattoria for breakfast about 2 years ago and we both really enjoyed it. I would recommend Trattoria, but again, my expierence with Kona is tainted because I didn't like what I ordered and where we were sat.

If you really want to try Tonga Toast, but do not want to pay as much or try and get a reservation for Kona, you can go to Capt. Cook's, and it is cheaper there than in Kona just as an FYI.

We have a dinner reservation at Rosa Mexicano (note it's not Rosa's) in January, which we booked via MDE, and here's a copy and paste from the confirmation email (bolding added). I expect they'll do the same for any reservation at any time of day, not just dinner.
