This has been going on for about a week--now we dont have a landline we each have a cell phone.
DH will aget a phone call on his phone he doesnt answer it so it goes to voicemail. When we listen to it there asking for either my DH or myself.
yet they call on his phone.
Then within hrs or day or so I get the same deal.
One time they called on his phone looking for me. DH asked who was calling and they hung up.
So today he gets again I tried calling back and get a message--the first part I couldn understand but it went on to say their either with a customer or away from the desk and to leave a message.. Thats when I hung up.
A few hrs later I get it.. When I answer the girl said sorry wrong number. I said youve been trying to get a hold of me for days who are you and why are you calling.
then click

There was one time when DH answered and it was from our insurance (medicare) about the in home wellness check. DH told them we just had our physicals. The person got rude said snapped thats for medicare this is for your insurance and then click
these people are very good at hanging up
Id like to do something to get these calls to stop
but not sure where to start.
Any thoughts on this or has anyone else gotten these types of calls.

A few years ago we did have the in home check and the dr (and yes it was a dr not a healthcare worker) she was so rude after she got done with Dh and it was my turn I sent her packing. DH too was really annoyed cause he actually filed a complaint.

very strange that when they were being questioned they hang up
DH just called that he got an alert about a scam in a suburb wonder if this is connected

Our insurance last year was a regional BCBS Medicare advantage plan. We had BC &BS for about 20 years before Medicare. We changed only because our primary care MDs no longer participate. Last year we did receive those calls about the in home visits. The 1 time I answered I did tell the agent we go to the office for care, were healthy & mobile 60s, no need for in home. He did hang up abruptly. I assumed calls would stop, but the never did. We also got rid of our home phone. I got calls on my cell regularly & never answered. My husband didn’t get any calls. I considered blocking the calls, but they did come from different numbers so that wouldn’t have worked. I just let them go to voice mail & ignored. So far haven’t gotten any from my new insurance provider.

You could try calling your insurance company customer service & see if they can do anything to remove you from the call list. I know this is a Medicare benefit, my parents used to get them as well. I don’t even know if these calls are just from some generic company & not really my actual insurance carrier. Just like I get junk mail about different Medicare providers, these calls might be the same thing. They always just say they’re calling about your insurance benefit, they don’t actually say which company that is.

We get quite a few scam calls. I even double-checked that our numbers are on the national do not call registry. Most are Medicare-related — asking if the new card has arrived, trying to sign up for some free benefit, etc. I hang up, if I even answered at all (I don’t answer cell phone calls that I don’t recognize the number).

I haven't heard of this one for sure. However, if I had to guess it is probably some kind of scam. Probably should block the#

Sorry but I’m drawing a blank. How do I delete and block. If I click on the number it starts calling it. Which I click off of quick.
I know I was able to do it

Oh those darn scammers. They apparently move through towns for a while, then leave.
We had a lot of those calls recently. They say Hi I'm _____, is this? Then they start in on their selling speeches. When I ask who they are and who are they representing, I get a hang up.
It got so annoying, several times a day, that on the last one, I took my phone over to the TV and turned the volume up to very, very loud and left the phone there.
Never got another call after that.
They tend to prey on the elderly, and I warned my mother to just hang up on them if they call.
Our local news station mentioned that the scammers were in the area and scammed people in our small town out of $50,000!!!! They said the scammers apparently moved on to another area. Very sad to prey on the elderly who tend to believe the people who call.

This is very interesting cause it sounds just like what’s happening to us. As soon as you start asking them questions they just hang up
Stupid fools though. One of the calls I got they didn’t realize they were talking to a machine. They kept saying. Hello are you there yet. Hello. This went on for a few times then they filling hung up
My DH got another call about an hr ago so I’m just waiting for my call. I know it’s coming

I don't block anyone, I just won't answer the phone if I don't know who is calling. I always let it go to voicemail. If it is important they will tell you the details. If it is something that is possible then try and call them back, but not without some thought as to who is calling and why. Never call back any number that has not left a message or just one that makes no sense to you.

If you have a cell phone you can use the "contact" part of your phone to establish the names and number of people you know. Friends, relatives or work. Anyone that you would take a call from. Then if they are calling it will show up on the phone identifying who they are. Otherwise, if you don't recognize the number do not answer. If it is important they will leave a message that you will recognize as legit and respond to or just delete and go on with your day..

Also, this should go without saying, but if anyone calling you leads with "Can you hear me?" if you do answer unknown numbers (not smart IMHO - let it go to voice mail), your response should be "Who are you calling for?". DO NOT SAY "Yes" because scammers will be recording and will use your verbal yes for a variety of unscrupulous things.

Thanks for the reminder about not saying yes.
Thanks PP with the how to for blocking.
The mistake I was making is I just tapped on where the phone number is and that’s when it would call back the number
I blocked the number so hopefully this is the end
Thanks

We stopped answering our home phone if the caller isn't someone we recognize. FAR too many scammers either claiming to be selling something or trying to get personal information like credit card numbers from you. IF they are legit, they will leave a message. Scammers NEVER leave a message since they know people aren't going to call them back. I stopped worrying about who might be calling and this works great. Many seem to be random companies selling who knows what along with scammers.............nope not interested.

The ones who call multiple times go on the 'ignore' list.

The thing about saying 'yes' seems to be more of an urban legend than reality. Honestly, they would need to have another database to match it to. Simply recording a random person saying 'yes' isn't going to accomplish anything. Once in a great while we used to get a caller who started off by saying 'this call is being recorded'................I would tell them it must be a scam since legit business calls would have no need to do that when they are the ones initiating the call...............click.......they immediately hang up................go figure.

Not really. I've had legit businesses tell me they're recording the call. They record the call so they can verify what information was passed (either direction). They say the call is being recorded because some states requires both parties to acknowledge the recordings. Easier to make the policy for every call to announce the recording than to figure out where the person you're calling physically is.

Its cold call scammers.
Just don't answer unless its a number you know.
If its a doctor MOST of the time it will say healthcare.
If its important they will leave a message with a number to call back.
Most scammers either leave an automated message or none at all.
So it should be easy to tell if its legit or not.

you can also designate a specific ringtone on your cell for your contacts so you will know immediately when it rings if it's someone you know. I have one ringtone for family members, another for medical providers, default for all else.

Billboards alongToll / Interstate in Orlando area warning about scammers .
They are eliminating many of the Cash Lanes and apparently scammers are asking for payment .
I don’t know any other info about this . I’ll try to check to report updates .
Also the normal cash lane has posted Do Not Stop … so it is kind of scary cause it is new news to receive as you are preparing to Stop !

I had this for 4-5 weeks early in January into this month. Sometimes 15+ calls a day! I looked up the number on my laptop and went back to my phone and blocked it. Wash and repeat. Idiots continued to call back even though the number is blocked (I can see the number called but phone does not ring). It has 99% stopped as of last week, so it must have been coming from a single scammer.

Those Medicare wellness checks are a sketchy way for advantage plans to get more money from the government by "finding" more diagnosis . With Medicare Advantage plans, the plan gets paid for EACH diagnosis even if you aren't treating it. My plan which is regional and one of the best was teasing people with a $25 supermarket gift card for several years. I'll bet those stop pretty soon. I figure if I see MY doc on a regular basis, why do I want to see a stranger, no less let them in my home.

DO NOT answer a call from an unknown number. If you answer by mistake HANG UP. Do not talk to them. Do not respond when they ask "can you hear me". Urban legend or not, don't respond. The longer you are on the phone the better chance they have of tricking you. People in your orbit have your number and will leave a message or email you.
