Don't flame me for this, but I'm concidering dropping out BOG ressie for something else. I was thinking about Bongos. If you've been there, can you share your experiences?

TIA!

ETA - Now I'm thinking maybe canceling our F! package on our arrival day and doing Bongos that day. We can tour DHS during the day, and then go to DtD at night..... This is so hard to decide!!!

Many, many times. I enjoy it. The evening show is usually entertaining. The service can be spotty at time but I can always get around that just fine. The food is good enough. Ropa Veija is good.

Evening show? At Bongos?? What kind of show is it?

Funny you asked this. I just booked Bongo for our arrival night and had wondered because I don't see any discussion about it either. And I too am curious about the entertainment. Thanks for asking.

I just had my rehearsal dinner at Bongos this past February. The food was delicious, and the service was great! However, if you have younger children the atmosphere at BOG cant be beat. My meal was just as great at BOG if thats a concern, because I had read iffy meal reviews but our party of 12 all raved about our food!

I just read your update, I would definitely cancel F! package over BOG for Bongos. I have never had a really "great" meal at any of DHS restaurants.. theyve always been "okay" at best. Thats my opinion though :goodvibes

Our Ratings of Bongo's Cuban Cafe: (rev 6/7/2013)
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: C
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: C
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: C
. . . staff attentiveness: D
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: The food is about average; pricing not far off the going rate
for WDW; however, the service leaves far too much to be desired,
bordering on rude. Chose the Mexican beer over mixed drinks, as
the drinks are quite disgusting. The outdoor QS serving window is
good. We are fond of going to a noon-matinee at the AMC movies
after a sandwich from the serving window. The good thing is that
the eatery is seldom over crowded and easy to get a seat without
an ADR. (This could also tell you something about the quality.) There
is usually evening bands and/or other entertainment.

Cuban inspired musical groups play at 9pm. The best I saw was a group imitating Ricky Ricardo's band, it was like being in Havana in the 50's. Don't know it it's every night or just weekends. When I go it's either Fri or Sat night, sometimes Sunday afternoons.

Wanted to eat at Bongos once. Family of four walked in stood at the hostess stand for 10 minutes no one said Hi, bye or anything to us. Turned around walked down to Raglan Road and were seated in less than 2 minutes. Had the best time there and continue to go back.

We usually visit Bongo's every other trip. We enjoy the atmosphere, the mojitos, and the food. The arroz con pollo is decent as are many of the meat dishes which are usually served with rice and fried plantains.

Ya'll are not making me feel good about this decision! lol
On one hand, I don't want to miss Fantasmic! But on the other hand, I don't really want to eat at Mama Melrose, and I really don't want to eat dinner at 3:40pm. Ugh

I think it depends on whether you like that type of food. We *love* Cuban food, and we enjoy Bongos -- at least every other trip. The live music adds to the theme, but it's more for ambiance than a "show."

One word about Bongo's....BLEECH!!!
We ate there for lunch a few months ago. The restaurant was practically empty yet service was slow. The food was cold. Rice and beans were sooo dry it was almost impossible to swallow them and even the cuban sandwich was lousy. All of this and it was kind of expensive. I know it is Disney but it is so easy to get delicious and inexpensive Cuban food so many other places I will definitely not be returning!

I have had both experiences at Bongos, good at dinnertime, lousy at lunch. Do not walk in if the place is empty, the food and service will disapoint!

Oh Boy - I did a search on this since I don't see it mentioned too often. We have an ADR here in October. I am having second thoughts now.

Wife and I had dinner here a couple years ago and had great service . The food was pretty good, not Mom and Pop Miami good, but good. Our Waiter was very nice and helpful too...

yikes now im a little nervous about my choice I just made a reservation for Bongos for our Dec trip and I am not sure if I made a good choice what other choices are there in Downtown Disney besides rainforest café that would be a good family choice??? Thanks

Raglan road is a must for us! We love it as does our dd who will be 3 on our next trip. My parents love it and my DFil loves it too. All have very different tastes btw. The live music and dancing is a lot of fun too and keeps our dd fascinated.

We just added a day and chose Bongos for the end of October. We've never been there but I hope the choice doesn't backfire. Reading this thread makes me a little nervous.:headache:

We are keeping our ADR. Will come back and post a quick review. Please do the same :)
