I need to buy new living room furniture. This is furniture that would be used every day.

A Bob's Discount Furniture Store recently opened near us. Of course Bob's has great prices but I'm really wondering if you get what you pay for, and maybe the quality is inferior.

Our current living room set is more than 20 years old so we don't frequently buy furniture.

Does anyone have any experience with this furniture store - good or bad?

Thanks. :)

We have a Bob's where I live and we've purchased a number of pieces from them. Their salespeople work on commission, so you feel a bit descended upon when you arrive at the store, but they'll leave you alone if you ask. Bob's works if you're not looking for a lot of custom peices. I've found the quality to be just fine. We have a sectional that we use every day that we've had for 2 years with no problems. I find the prices to be really great. There is no one that is in their range in my area for the quality you get. Good luck!

We bought our kitchen set from them 9 years ago and it has been great. It was damaged when delivered, and the delivery people were on the phone with customer service getting the new piece ordered. About a week later, I had the new piece.

I agree with PP about the hovering with the sales people, but if you nicely tell them you are just looking, they do seem to back off, but will follow you about 10-20 feet behind you.

Happy Shopping!

We got our entertainment center there. It is large and has drawers and doors and media storage etc. So far it is holding up perfectly fine. (About 8 years) Even with two active boys and DH who are in the storage areas all the time looking for movies and games!

I don't know about 'Bob's' but I just FINALLY bought furniture after about a 2 year search. I began to be able to see and feel differences in cheap versus good quality/not cheap furniture and we settled for mid range knowing that it would not last the nearly 20 years that our last furniture did. I'd recommend reading about furniture constuction and doing some extensive shopping. I think it paid off for me. You don't need to take 2 years obviously; I went extremely slowly but I can tell you that if I had purchased the first thing I sort of liked, I'd be unhappy. We bought at Haverty's. They have some good basic furniture.

Hhhmm, we had Bob's recently open up near us, I wonder if its the same one you are talking about. IMHO any furniture store that has the word discount in their name is going to have poor quality furniture that won't last and you truly get what you pay for. Have you thought about North Carolina furniture dealers? There are so many that deliver to NY and you can get a great deal on good quality brand name furniture. I have several pieces from some dealers and even with delivery to NY their price was less than in a local retailer.

I haven't bought furniture from them but when I was looking 2 years ago for a couch and chair set, I thought that their delivery charges were high. I remember it being around $100 to delivery the two pieces. That was lots more than I, as a second year teacher at the time, wanted to pay - especially for furntiutre that I thought was so-so. I eventually found a local business who would deliver for free and had products that I liked more.

We bought a couch, 2 chairs and 2 ottomans from them a year ago and so far everything is fine. All the pieces get daily use.

I bought a couch from them and two recliners from lazyboy on the same day. I still have the couch but the recliners have gone to visit the little dumpster in the sky.
the recliners had a lifetime warrenty but when I took them back to the store they said the warrenty was for the life of the chair. WHAT!!! I guess the chair died so the warrenty expired. They couldn't explain the warrenty, just said it had expired.
Anyway.. Make sure to bring the kiddies when you go to Bob's. They have a great little candy room in the back with free candy, drinks and cookies. There is always someone back there making cookies so they are always fresh and warm. My boys used to love going to Bob's and came home with their pockets full.

Every room in my home is furnished from Bob's except one (stupid IKEA!). We love their products. Last year, we were buying a new set for my son's room (he had outgrown his bunkbeds) and told the salesperson that we had been having trouble with the headboard on the bed in the master bedroom. The salesperson arranged for the setup people to look at the problem and try to fix it while they were delivering the new furniture.

The setup guys took off the footboard and put new rails on the headboard. Unfortunately, they put them on incorrectly. They admitted their mistake and called their head office. Within half an hour, we had a credit for our FULL purchase price to pick out a new bedroom set! We picked out a new set (ours was five years old and wasn't on the floor anymore) and had it delivered right away. We had NOT purchased the "protection" plan, either.

Anyone can make a mistake, but this company did whatever they could to make it better. Because of this, I will be a customer for life.

PS almost all of their showrooms have a theater/arcade/game area and will watch your kids for your while you shop. One of ours even has free Haagan Daz for all customers!

I like bob's. They have the best deals for the quality in my area. I got my sofa set from them.. about 3 years ago, they are holding up well.

My living room set was garbage within a year my bedroom set just wouldn't die even though I hated it. My Living room set was not one of the cheapo's either so I was MAD. Would I buy from there again? Yes but not living room furniture since everyone I know had the same problem.

I bought my 11 year old's bunk bed there. We had been looking for quite a while at bunk beds. I really wanted all wood and I really wanted something that could come apart into 2 separate beds and that she wouldn't outgrow. What we ended up getting was cheaper than any others we saw that were remotely comparable. Most required a bunky-board because they only had 3 slats to hold up the matress but what we got came with slats every 2 inches. It also came with a safety bar that fastened on the inside so down the road when she separates the beds there won't be marks on the outside from where we remove the safety bar. It also came with all of the materials necessary for either a bottom single bed or a futon so if she chooses to change at any point in time she can (we'll have to buy an extra matress but we have all the hardward). For everything we got with the Bob's bed, we would have had to pay almost double anywhere else. We're the kinds of people who like to keep our furniture for years and years to come (I'd like her to go off to college using this set) and I really do expect this bed to last that at least that long.

Next time we need any major piece of furniture I'll definitely be looking there. I'm very happy with the quality as well as price.

As others have said, bring your kids for the amazing kid area in the store.

We have purchased from Bob's

You get what you pay for.

We bought both boys bedroom furniture there, it not the best by far, it looks decent enough but pulling out drawers you really notice the quality.

That being siad, we only planned this furnitur to last at max 10 years for each kids and expect the pieces to take some young boy abuse. The price for what we wanted worked for us.

I have bought my mattress and foundation from Bob's, it is the best sleep I have ever had. I purchased it there becasue they have a very liberal return policy and I have been burnt twice, once when I purchased a $2200 set 16 years ago, the next time when I bought a Sleep number bed 7 years ago. I hated both after a very short time. Most stores will make you pay 300 to return a queen set and $400 for a King even if it is within the "Happy sleep" guarantee time period. Bob's will not. I called after 4 months when my DH was still having trouble sleeping and was told to return it for another. I asked what would happen if he hated that one and was told that they would take it back. We decided the issue this time was him so I kept what we had but was very impressed that they stood behind their commercial promises.

I bought my LR set from them next. It is not the best quality, I did not pay for the top of the line. It is sturdy and comfortable, easy to clean and so far has stood up to all of my family using it as their second home. I had a problem with the easy chair and they came right out and repaired it and this was after 18 months.

I think their furniture is junk, to put it nicely.
We had a living room set that fell apart within two years (and our child was only a toddler at the time, so it wasn't from rough use).
I know others who have learned their lessons, too.

I would never buy from them again. It's just not worth it.
We went to a nicer furniture place and bought a leather sectional. Yeah, it was more expensive than Bob's. But it looks a heckuva lot nicer and it will LAST! So, it's a much better value.

We bought the Bobby Bear Plush. My DH thought that he would like it better than the Firm. My DS bought one of their Temperpedic sets and is very happy with it. I bought the insurance as well, $60 for ten years. I have pets and a granddaughter. I think I paid around $1700 for the set. i know that the twin was $1100 because I priced it for my DGD. It is a good set yet way less than a comparable one at Sleepy's or Raymore and Flanagan.

The set we bought has soem memory foam in it, actually many brands do now. I had read reviews of some online and saw that often the foam "remembers' amnd leaves an indentation in the mattress but the manufacturer will not replace it if it is not deep enough. Bos told me that they will make good on any defect and that includes a "dent' in the mattress. I believe them, in our paper a consumer advocate detailed what Bob's had offered to do when a leather sofa was destroyed. It seems that the owner had a German Shepard that was using it as a fire hydrant and the stitching had rotted. The company contracted by Bob's finally refused to continue to fix it as the dog continued it's bad behavior. Bob offered $1000 towards a new sofa and the guy was mad, he wanted it totally replaced. I figured if Bob tried to make good after a dog used the furniture as a urinal for several years I would trust that he would make good any issues I had.

The LR set I bought is a microfiber and leather but he fabric loks like a suede. I also bought the insurance adn have had them come out to clean it once. I usually clean it myself, it has held up nicely.

Seriously, it is not going to measure up to Ethan Allen and cost less than Lazy Boy but I am happier with this purchase than I was with the Lazy Boy recliners and sofa or the Ethan Allen LR set. Their customer service is way better as well. We are not easy on it, it is in our great room and I am constantly overflowing with company.

I know that Bob's furniture is not top of the line but the quality is not bad if you choose a more expensive piece. I shopped a lot before making the purchase and no store could come close to what was offered there. I figure that I can replace it and still come out ahead when it wears out and I won't worry if anything happens.

Wow!

Another great Budget Board tip, thank you!

And I have a Bob's near me, so I'll go look, and be aware of what I'm getting, but it seems like a good compromise between high-end and junk.

Thanks to all!
