Historically they hang out closer to 130. There was a brief time when it was down to 115 and you may still be able to get that price with a motivated seller. Are the prices up at BLT for some reason? I always thought they were around 115-119 per point.
And they were always bound to go up post refurb. The new poly point chart for villas and theme park view fiascos also make BLT look very attractive.Historically they hang out closer to 130. Yep, and I’m afraid they’re gonna go up before I get a few more points. And they were always bound to go up post refurb. The new poly point chart for villas and theme park view fiascos also make BLT look very attractive.
Thanks for this. Glad to see this analysis.Totally agree with these comments about value relative to Poly given the point charts. It's actually a curious thing for me (having lived in the world of timeshares, both DVC and those outside DVC for 25+years) that DVC has been able to create fairly large distinctions in point cost for resorts that sit mere miles away from each other and offer very similar accomodations and benefits.
Let's take BLT vs Poly Tower as an example:
Season 4 (Feb 1 - Feb 15 Jun 11 - Aug 31) - this is the middle of the points charts, season wise
Poly - Deluxe Tower Studio Standard 146 points/week = $1,157.78 in annual dues
Poly - Deluxe Tower Studio Preferred 174 points/week = $1,379.82 in annual dues
Poly - Deluxe Tower Studio TP 211 points/week = $1,673.23 in annual dues
BLT - Deluxe Tower Studio Standard 123 points/week = $ 986.46 in annual dues (15% less than Poly)
BLT - Deluxe Tower Studio Preferred 137 points/week = $1,098.74 in annual dues (20% less than Poly)
BLT - Deluxe Tower Studio TP 167 points/week = $1,339.34 in annual dues (20% less than Poly)
I get it, Poly is great and we love it, but is there anything you get staying at Poly that's worth 20% MORE in annual cost for a week (not even counting the difference in initial "buy-in" costs for points)? Effectively, every 5 years you could go an extra week at BLT....or, you could buy 20% fewer points to start.
Let's take a more drastic eample SSR vs Poly Tower:
Season 4 (Feb 1 - Feb 15 Jun 11 - Aug 31) - this is the middle of the points charts, season wise
Poly - Deluxe Tower Studio Standard 146 points/week = $1,157.78 in annual dues
Poly - Deluxe Tower Studio Preferred 174 points/week = $1,379.82 in annual dues
SSR - Deluxe Tower Studio Standard 102 points/week = $ 871.08 in annual dues (25% less than Poly)
SSR - Deluxe Tower Studio Preferred 113 points/week = $ 965.02 in annual dues (30% less than Poly)
This is a little bit more of an apples vs. oranges comparison, but if you're going to have what is a (supposedly) "standard" or "preferred" view at Poly tower, are you getting something by staying there worth 25-30% more in annual costs (again, not counting the difference in initial "buy-in" costs for points)? I get it, here there are some real differences in the respective resorts and there is always a premium for staying so close to MK....but it commands quite a premium in DVC points. Staying at SSR you still get all the other (more tangible in my view) on-site Deluxe Resort benefits.
This is the analysis that speaks to me as being very important. Being on property in a villa is the priority for me, not staying at a specific resort for a specific reason. Of course I have a favorite but mostly I just like to have trips booked! ETA: and I love having transportation included, no matter the type.Totally agree with these comments about value relative to Poly given the point charts. And not even counting the buy in difference, and the cost of using points (charts). Add all of that in and I bet the difference is staggering.I think it is very possible people are willing to pay 20% more for Poly than BLT, it all comes down to personal preferences and what you call "value". I am a BLT owner because I thought I got a decent price, it was not my favorite resort. But I am trying to use the points at Poly.......
It is weird that the price can go up when there are less points to be acquired.A year ago when I thought I was buying strictly resale to get into DVC, the plan for my resale contract empire was going to be heavily centered around BLT. I think the resale pricing a year ago was low $130s per point. Today, I see a couple of stripped BLT contracts going for under $120 per point. I continue to view BLT as a tremendous value for all the usual reasons, and I would otherwise be chasing those two contracts right now.

As someone who just looked at Poly, BLT, and other re-sale contracts, the #1 reason we did not go with BLT is the studios are just too small for our family of 4 (boy/girl kids who won't share anymore). So while the points are low, you get a room too small for our family of 4, while the Poly original studios do work for families up to 5. I imagine between that and general lack of theming at BLT, that accounts for a lot of the demand/price difference.Totally agree with these comments about value relative to Poly given the point charts. The vibe of easily rolling up to MK on foot doesn’t do it for you? That’s all it took for me.I wish I’d have an epiphany about BLT like it did recently with RIV, but it hasn’t happened yet. It makes sense b/c we’re such practical people, but the theme/vibe isn’t speaking to me in any way. Sadly, we don’t prefer any of the monorail resorts, but I think we would be smart to get some MK resort points.
This is the biggest shortcoming IMO. I like having a second place we can do studios if we want.As someone who just looked at Poly, BLT, and other re-sale contracts, the #1 reason we did not go with BLT is the studios are just too small for our family of 4 (boy/girl kids who won't share anymore). We own points at both BLT and Poly. My wife loves the poly as her favorite resort and is willing to use more points every stay. We use our BLT points to stay there.Totally agree with these comments about value relative to Poly given the point charts. It should, shouldn't it?! We'll have to try it one weekend and see, but I wasn't super impressed with the refurb and we aren't fans of the Contemporary. I'm with another poster, prob on another thread, holding out hope for a villain's land access resort. That would be the ultimate MK buy in for us.The vibe of easily rolling up to MK on foot doesn’t do it for you? That’s all it took for me.![]()
