BLT looks a bargain?

So besides the bland theming what's the biggest drawback to BLT compared to the other resorts...specifically the MK ones?

Pool? Because although I've never used the BLT or CR pools I can see from images they are nowhere near as nice as VGF, Poly or WL.

From one perspective, the things that are a "drawback" are actually a "plus" from a different perspective. I have multiple contracts at BLT. I like being able to walk to the MK (or more accurately, I like being able to walk back to my room from the MK, as opposed to battle the monorail crowds at the end of the night).

The three biggest drawbacks are (1) pool (and smallish hot tub), (2) lack of food options in the tower, and (3) lack of green space and grounds.

But two of these are plusses in other categories. Because there's a small pool and minimal green space and grounds, dues "should" remain low. That is, there's far less to care for, refurb, and upkeep than at, say, AKV or even the other monorail resorts. So even though some amenities are on the lower side, there's a financial upside to that as well.

Pools. Although BLT has its own pool with a slide but it’s small. We usually used the contemporary pool. You face bay lake instead of 7th sea lagoons at the pool which is kind of a con. But I really like bay lake.

Polynesian specifically feels really tropical. But it’s all outdoors to the main building until the tower opens. The walkway to the contemporary is super convenient at bay lake.

Only other drawback I can think is if you’re comparing studio at BLT to studio elsewhere, BLT is on the small side. Not a problem for 1 or 2 bedrooms though.
true. The small studio is a drawback for some. I do like it for our family because of the layout. But it doesn't work well for others. Also for anyone needing 5 people in a studio. Poly and grand floridian offer 5 people in studios and the resort studios at grand floridian have an even better 5th sleeper.

Our family just stayed in an AKV value studio and made do just fine so I'm assuming the BLT studio would be more than ample.

BLT grounds are small but my kids loved going over the bridge to the Contemporary every day. The gym at the Contemporary - woof. It's in a basement - maybe the worst on property. The running route leaves a lot to be desired too.

ALL of the Deluxe properties have one big problem IMHO - almost no QS. in that respect BLT is better than most.

We stayed in a 2br dedicated last December. It was a great layout and very functional. At first we were a little disappointed in the lobby and lack of themeing over all, but that was quickly forgotten. Very easy walk to MK and Contemporary. Did not miss having quick service in the tower. The room was a bit shabby around the edges, but for the most part the materials seemed to hold up pretty well. My only concern about a refurb is that it will go that bland Marriott beige pallet that seems to be the new norm. My 4 Year old granddaughter asked if we could live here now! Will always go for the dedicated 2br for future stays. (December 25 planned)

No debate about the running path. But the gym is on the 3rd floor, not in the basement. And with the exception of the Cabins and possibly BWV (as the deli, pizza, are technically outside) all of the DVC resorts in Florida have a QS option. I'd say that the one at BLT is toward the bottom of the list in terms of quality, but that's just a personal preference (The one at the contemporary is better). But I can't think of one DVC resort in Florida (except, I guess, for the Cabins) that don't have one on property.

What QS at BLT are you referring to? The pool bar?

That is definitely a great perspective!

My favorite relaxing-nap-in-the-stroller place was the bbq pavilion by the pool. It was so quiet and no one ever came by. I guess because the running path was crummy? Someday I hope to use the BBQ there (and hope they keep it, or some kind of grill, after the refurb)

It's all relative! When we were looking, our youngest was still in a crib/pack and play, and often the kitchenette was touted as a quiet and dark place to put the baby. Also - when using the second sink in a studio, you're out of the way of anyone else moving around (unlike the little kitchen shelf in many of the new studios....) Ultimately we only stayed in a BLT studio without the kids, and it was perfectly nice and a fine space for just 2 adults. I could also see - if they keep the kitchenette - a BLT studio being a decent snowbird-y longer stay once I'm retired.

!! I'm sad the arcade is gone, and I guess it shows how often I've used the gyms at WDW - 1x at Riviera and counting. I tend to get my steps in in the parks.

@Lumpy1106 do you mean no QS in the DVC building itself? @disneylandtour i'm only aware of contempo cafe in the Contemporary building? Is there a secret QS in the BLT building? Or do you mean, the QS in the Contemporary is much easier to get to than most of the QS at other DVC-inclusive resorts (which I will agree with, especially for VGF in the OG villa building)
There's an island in all the 1br units. Inner ring has no stools though.
You're absolutely right. Sorry! (will go back and edit)

You solved the mystery hanging over my family's head! We have mostly been in the inner rooms with the laundry room. The kitchen island didn't have stools but we've seen them in pictures. So we assumed not having them was a casualty of a delayed refurbishment. We stayed in a room overlooking the marina in August. No laundry room but the kitchen island had stools.

That's on the 3rd floor? Looked like a basement to me. low ceilings, no fresh air flow. But it's on the 3rd floor? I stand corrected.

There should be a running trail to Wilderness Lodge, not around the buildings at Contemporary. Why is that not a thing? And no, you cannot just run on the road. The sidewalk ends and, while I have not tried it, I don't think they want you running on the side of the road.

Yes, I am counting the facilities at the Contemporary, including Contempo Cafe. The gym is in the Contemporary too.

When we bought BLT (resale) the other resorts - if they were even available resale -- were easily $20-$40pp more, and it was the only DVC you could walk to/from MK. It was also back when it was easier to walk to the MK bus stop to resort hop, and our kids were in strollers. It was definitely the right choice for us at the time. My only regret is that since we were just "dipping a toe in" to the DVC pool, we thought we'd include some studio stays. Now I wish we'd bought more points.

I continue to think BLT is undervalued because of its (bland) decor, even though we now own most of our points at VGF. But the location and the shopping and restaurants (and the value) all make up for it. Yes it's in need of the refurb, and all the other MK area DVCs feel more "luxe," but can't beat the price. ($107 pp, not stripped)
Are BLT resale contracts really going for $107pp? I’ve made offers higher than that on a few, and have gotten no counter offers back because it was “too low”. I even offered more than that on a contract stripped of ‘24 points with the same result.

I’ve seen one at 107$, ours was 110$, and I’ve seen several in the 111-115$ range.

Good question. Probably not many. I did a quick search of recently closed Bay Lake contracts on occompt and found one for $120/pt, one for $136/pt, and one for $100/pt. Notably the $100/pt was for a large contract (350 points) and may have been stripped (no way to know) and also was for a February use year (a common BLT use year). So deals are there, but you might have to offer on something others are not offering on.

Edit to add: occompt will only reflect sales that began 30-45 days ago. So prices may be different already, especially in light of contracting availability of resale contracts.

Typically when people get the low prices they have been trying for awhile. It just takes one person to say yes. 10 no's may yield 1 yes.

Yeah that’s what I’m annoyed with—or maybe I should say jealous of. Everything I see on DVCForLess (which aggregates a number of sites) is in the $119-$135 range. Am I supposed to be throwing lower offers and seeing what sticks?
