October is crazy busy at Disneyland. Halloweentime is a major FOMO thing for many people. So it will be very hard for either of the resorts. VDH for a studio will be the easier of the 2 locations. VGC is very small and will be booked up before 7 months out. Late July, you probably could have good luck getting VDH for sure and may be able to get VGC. Summers at Disneyland will be less crowded than October.
The availability calendar for Grand Cal for October is already pretty bad. It's only open for owners there and already half gone for studios. It's mostly just 1 or 2 days in a row that are available. Once October is available for non-owners, I'd expect it to be fully booked. July is completely booked for Grand Cal studios.

October will be worse than March this year since Easter is in April. End of August is usually a good time to go if you enjoy the Halloween Decorations.
Which resort did you book? VGC (Villas at the Grand California) or VDH (Villas at the Disneyland Hotel)?
As for specific airlines, that will really depend on where you are flying from but we always prefer to fly into SNA instead of LAX. The flights are usually more expensive but it is only a 20 min car/taxi/Uber to get to the DLR from SNA and from LAX it is usually no less than twice that amount of time.
There is also LGB but coming from Canada, specifically the West Coast, LGB is always WAY more expensive.
We have flown via LAX a few times and when we do, we book a car service which avoids having to either rent a car or get an Uber.
