I recently read the thread about someone using Suave shampoo and then their hair falling out. (most of you said to contact their doctor because it probably was some underlying problem and not the shampoo causing it)

I've been using Suave all of my life (I'm 39 now). Now I'm not sure if it's because I'm using a "cheaper" brand shampoo or just because I'm been "blessed" (NOT) with this kind of hair, but my hair is thick, course, always dry and comes down to about my shoulder blades. (now that I re-read that, I know the shampoo isn't going to cause the thickness or the length) but what about the dryness?

Do the have shampoos that are geared to help with dryness? I also use Suave conditioner everyday too. Should I be using a leave in conditioner? Which kind? Different shampoo/conditioner? Please help!!!

I have thick, dry curly hair
I use NO shampoo.
Thats right I use conditioner without shampoo. Only shampoo about once a month.
Yes I would consider a "stonger" conditioner than suave. I have tried salon brands and over the counter. I think some of the over the counter ones do just as well.
I like Loreal Ever pure and I also like the pantene for cury hair.

And I would think about a leave in. I like Moroccan Oil.

I can tell you that in my personal experience conditioning and skipping shampoo makes it less frizzy and softer -but I will still always have thick, coarse hair.

My hair is thick, very coarse, and dry as well; the ends, anyway. I have an oily scalp, and have to wash my hair every other day or else I resemble a grease pit! Anyhow, I've found that Dove shampoo, and especially conditioner, works wonders on my hair. It really does leave it soooo soft! I don't remember the particular one I use, but it has the word "repair" in the title.

Personally, I'd go with salon brands. Use your salon or find a local one that will allow returns if you don't like it. My old salon used to let you buy a bottle to try, then you could return it if it didn't work out. I think that's a great way to find the one shampoo for you.

My hair isn't thick or coarse, but it is extremely curly, dry, and there's a lot of it. The two shampoos that work best for me are Nexxus Therappe or Nexxus Sleektress (used to be salon brands, but now sold in stores).

Years ago I tried using inexpensive brands like Suave, but they were miserable on my hair. Not worth the savings at all, especially if you're having to buy all kinds of extra products to make your hair look good.

I don't have coarse hair, but I do use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner because I straighten my hair daily and my two favourites are Redken All Soft and The Body Shop banana sets.:thumbsup2

my vote is for Nexxus Therapee. It is the best shampoo for my hair, nothing can beat it. It makes it feel like silk and it smells amazing. It is pricey but 100% worth the money.

The BEST thing I have found is the shampoo bars from Basin at Downtown Disney. You can also order them online here: http://www.basin.com/web-cart/customer/home.php?cat=259

I use Good Hair Day but I've heard the other bars are great too. They smell WONDERFUL and they don't dry out my hair or scalp. And, even though they appear small, they last me for about 80 washes.

Frederic Fekkai's Shea Butter Conditioner. And stop shampooing every day. When you do shampoo, use a shampoo without lauryl/laureth sulfates. Cocamidopropyl betaine is better. (I actually buy my shampoo at Trader Joe's.) Also, condition the ends of your hair before you shampoo (just use cheapy condiitoner for this), so the ends of your hair won't be so dry.

I air-dry my hair, never blow dry. Occasionally I'll use a diffuser. I use Sebastian Potion 9 for styling.

I love Nexxus products. For years I have used the Therapee shampoo and the Humectress (sp?) conditioner is amazing.
