Bay Lake Tower refurb dates

We just returned from a one night stay Friday night, September 27. For once room was ready at 12. We were assigned south wing 8th floor lake view studio. I own BLT and so often stay there and it was the room while clean was in the worst shape I have ever seen. The bathroom door was broken. And then as we were packing up to check out my daughter noticed that the ceiling was leaking from the area by the kitchen. I said something on the way out as we were waiting for the elevators and the CM stated that they were starting refurb on south wing 7th floor and above. That is a good thing…it obviously needs it as a leaking ceiling when you are on the 8th floor is no small thing.

I will miss the art work…too bad since we were probably some of the last to stay in that room I would have loved to take it with me. :)

I'll be in a lake view studio Oct 24-25 and then in a standard studio Oct 25-28, so I'll be on the lookout to see if I'll be moved.

We were scheduled in a studio / standard view starting October 19th and received a call whereby they are moving us to a Tower room in the Contemporary for our stay.
That would be awful for us. We are staying in a one bedroom and spend a lot of time in room and make most of our meals .

The Contemporary Tower room does not seem like a fair swap for a Bay Lake Studio. If you are asked to move, do you have a choice? Can you say no, I expect fair value and will only accept another DVC studio? I have a Bay Lake studio lake view booked for November 10 for a week. Now I'm worried. Does anyone have experience with this?

How long is your stay? I know sometimes they seem to move people with shorter stays because it is easier.

I'm a bit surprised that they're moving people checking in in October. Even under the best conditions, it would be very unlikely that that room would have been done with the refurb by then. I wonder if there are more people who are being moved.

It also makes me wonder about the sudden availability in late October / November / early December that happened on Sunday. We grabbed a BLT 1 BR Standard View for 8 nights at the end of November.

I would take the tower room, BLT studios are so small. The downside is not having the microwave and toaster, maybe they could bring one.

Not as convenient, but there is the microwave in the counter service near the drink station. Not sure of toaster, want to say yes, but not 100% sure.

How much notice ahead of your check in date were you given? We are headed there in December in a 2BR Magic Kingdom view, with 5 adults. We’re a tad worried :)

There is a post on DVCFan's group on Facebook that floors 5-16 are now closed in the South Tower.

***. South Tower
Floors 5 - 16 closed for refurbishment.
Those elevators closed as well.
BUT you can use the walkway to Contemporary.
All rooms will use the other tower elevators.

This may explain the sudden availability of Standard View rooms on Saturday, especially if perhaps the plan to start with was to do floors 1-5 (since there are no standard view rooms on 5-16 in the south tower) and then they instead decided to do 5-16, or maybe they finished 1-4 early?

I have a two bedroom booked for a couple nights on the 27th. So far, no call. I’m interested to see what happens.

Thanks. I certainly don't understand the availability that popped up in standard view rooms for Oct. and Nov. then.
I really think they planned to go floor by floor from bottom up like they did when they did the soft refurb last time, but then decided to do floors 5-16 instead so they’d need to open the standard rooms back up and then move other reservations.

That's my hope (for the sake of our 1 BR we snagged last weekend). I guess if DisneyPoly got the call 2.5 weeks ago it is possible the decision was made after calling and relocating people..
