I am fascinated by this movie. The trailer being a send up of 2001 a space odyssey is pretty great. I think the fact that Ken is 42 is part of it. I suspect it will be very tongue in cheek. The director is a pretty good one so I am very interested in how this will play out. This movie looks absolutely terrible
Ryan Gosling as Ken - give me a break
He’s 42 years old - a little old to play Ken, and why would he want to?
This movie comes out 7/21/23 - you’re assignment Buzz is to go see this movie and let us know how it is.
I suspect the same. Tongue-in-cheek humor but with heart, probably not unlike the Lego Movie. Greta Gerwig has a good track record, so who knows.I am fascinated by this movie. And Buzz, should you be caught, the DIS will disavow any knowledge of your existence. This movie comes out 7/21/23 - you’re assignment Buzz is to go see this movie and let us know how it is.
I read this in Captain Price’s voice (Call of Duty) for some reason. And Buzz, should you be caught, the DIS will disavow any knowledge of your existence.
This post will explode in ten seconds.
The fact that they aren't using "Barbie Girl" in the movie is blasphemous lol
This would have been fantastic!
The trailer looks like it's touching upon Barbie history (I can't believe I'm saying this). We see Barbie in the original swimsuit while little girls are smashing their baby dolls. Barbies came along as a replacement for baby dolls and paper dolls- actually the creator of Barbie noticed that her daughter, Barbara (whom I kid you not had a brother named Kenneth), preferred playing with paper dolls of adult women. The original Barbie is actually a retooled German "adult" toy (think Spencers), based on a risqué' comic strip. Barbie creator bought a few on a visit to Germany, and her husband, a Mattel executive, worked to get the rights. When you look at the general picture movies based on toy lines have always been a huge hit since the 80's when every single 80's toyline such as GI Joe and My Little Pony became a hit a movie or cartoon would follow later on. With Barbie there was always movies and cartoons based on Barbie dolls such as Barbie And The Rockers and Barbie And The Sensations and ever since the release of the first direct to video movie on Barbie which was Barbie And The Nutcracker in 2001 it seems that every year an avalanche of Barbie movies gets released and this is a way for Mattel to sell Barbie dolls and toys. With the release of the live-action Barbie movie debuting in 2023 it seems that they are trying to attract a new generation of Barbie doll collectors and I grew up playing with Barbie when I was a little girl and I cannot believe how Barbie dolls has changed since I used to play with Barbie as a little girl because if you look at Barbie dolls today they focus on teaching girls about careers and having a positive image about themselves. And so I think Mattel will hit the jackpot with this Barbie movie and I can expect to see a whole line of toys and merchandise being released for this movie next year. Even though I am more interested in celebrity dolls than Barbie today I think this movie will show promise
