Are any of you fine people in the USA aware of Banksy? He's a pseudo-anonymous graffiti artist that occasionally "tags" political drawings on walls etc, including the kissing policemen mural. He's sort of a celebrity around here.

Never hear of him but I don't get the absurd prices artwork tends to sell for either. Some artists tend to do bizarre things/subjects just to gain notoriety.

But that's part of it, right? His stuff is more of a performance art or kind of mixture. He isn't concerned about his work being preserved forever for it's beauty, but more with how it is experienced in any given moment. He's interesting for sure, but I am not sure I would call myself a "fan."
