Be aware that the Avis office is pretty far from the port and they don't have as many shuttles as the other companies.Have you dropped off at Avis and used the shuttle to the port? For a family of four (kids are teens) would you recommend my husband drops us and all our stuff and then returns car on his own? Or should we all do the shuttle? Thanks!
As to the comments about having to wait for a car. This office is very small. They only move about 100 cars on a busy day when there are multiple ships in port. So the problem is that people are getting off the ships and to the office before the cars are being dropped off. Then Avis has to prep the cars before sending them back out. The likelihood of having to wait is very high. Also, they only have 3 people working the counter with one of them only doing returns and Presidents club. PC gets priority over everyone. That said the staff is very nice and will actually do all they can to keep things moving. The computer system they use is positively ancient thus VERY slow. They are sill using dot matrix printers. Avis and Budget are the same company with the same systems so both are problematic. I will say that the office staff at Budget seem to hate their jobs and their life.
Everyone has to be off the ship by 9am but the earliest you can get off is going to be around 7:30am. We have left at 7:30 and also left as late as 8:45. It made no difference in getting to the rental office or time spent there. You are very much at the mercy of how many other people are in line for the shuttle (it only seats 11) and at the office when you get there. What time did you get to the rental office? Makes me nervous that we should leave the ship early to get our car.
