OK, ever since our trip last week, my husband and I have been wondering about something. I'm sure someone out there can help us sort this out.

On Thursday, we went to MVMCP and saw Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas (wonderful show, by the way). Toward the beginning, Mickey and Minnie come out all ready for bed. Then they proceed to climb onto the same bed. My husband and I immediately looked at each other and at the same instant, we said, "Are they married?" I've seen a few musings on the boards about Mickey and Minnie being married, but are they really? :lmao:

Well I would hope so if they are going to climb in bed together in the middle of Magic Kingdom! ;) :teeth:

Q: Are Mickey and Minnie Married?

A: A lot of people wonder about this one. You may have seen wedding merchandise of Mickey and Minnie, but do you really think Minnie has a ring? Come on, those gloves are really thick ya know! Seriously, about the marriage issue, Walt Disney himself said "In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie. A lot of people have written to him asking this question, because sometimes he appears to be married to her in his films and other times still courting her. What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady. If the story calls for a romantic courtship, then Minnie is the girl; but when the story requires a married couple, then they appear as man and wife. In the studio we have decided that they are married, really."

Personally, I don't believe they are. How many married couples do you see living happily ever after in separate houses? Go to ToonTown in any "Kingdom" park and they both live single!

Speaking of "married", it is well known that both the voice of Minnie (Russi Taylor) and Mickey (Wayne Allwine) are married in real life. This is no joke! They are seriously married!

And, here's a link to the San Diego newspaper:

See? That's what I was thinking!!! The set for the show had their stockings hung by the fireplace along with Pluto's, like they were one happy little family. When they kissed goodnight, I thought sure Mickey would head for the bed on the stage and Minnie would disappear, but no! They climbed onto the same bed!

Tchrrx - that's an interesting article! Thanks for the insight!

I've been told that Minnie's house doesn't have a bedroom though. Some fellow DIS members were debating this a couple of months ago. I like to believe they are married.

Just in case, Pal Mickey & his fiance Minnie were married while at the Contemporary Resort on 12/2. A Build a Bear Mickey & Minnie were married at the same time. I don't allow unmarried couples to live together in my home! :lmao:

Maybe living in seperate houses is their secret to a long happy marriage

:rotfl2:

If I were married and I had as much money as they did, I'd love to have my own seperate home to decorate any way I wanted. I wouldn't use nearly as much pink and purple as Minnie (and would prefer some beach front property), but, hey, whatever floats you boat. I can believe that they are married.

My question is - If Max is Goofy's son, who is Max's mom?

Actually, I'm not sure I want to think too deeply about that.

I wondered this exact issue, too, when I saw T'was the Night Before Christmas at MVMCP!! It just struck me as odd that Mickey and Minnie were in bed together! But then I thought maybe they were playing the part of children in the play, so it was OK they were in bed together, as siblings or something. Well, hope that's what was going on! :)

Wha...?! How dare you deny something that Walt Disney himself once said. If Uncle Walt says that Mickey and Minnie are married "behind the scenes", then it's true. Besides, HE created the characters.

Guess you're not really a Disney fan after all.:sad2:

When DH & I have been together as long as Minnie & Mickey, I might want my own house, too or maybe just my own bed . . .

One of our Board of Finance members in town is married and his wife lives in the next town over. He has a house here and she has an apartment. They've been married for 20+ years too. She says it's because their lifestyles are so different, she gets up early he stays up late. She hates TV he loves it. Whatever makes you happy, I guess.

But no Mickey and Minnie are not married, they did get engaged once in a dream sequence that Mickey had.

I found this on another website:

Chris S., California: I know in the past you have stated here and in the Disney Magazine that Mickey and Minnie are not married. However, according to the Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters by John Grant (for which you wrote a foreword):

"Walt confounded the hypothesis by writing in Film Pictorial [30 September 1933] that, 'In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie. A lot of people have written him asking this question, because sometimes he appears to be married to her in his films and other times still courting her. What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady. If the story calls for a romantic courtship, then Minnie is the girl; but when the story requires a married couple, then they appear as man and wife. In the studio we have decided that they are married really.'" I have also heard (but have not found evidence to substantiate this fact) that in an interview either an animator or Imagineer had been quoted saying that if anyone asked Walt if Mickey and Minnie were married, Walt would answer, as far as he was concerned they were married. So I guess that question would be, who is correct?

One, if Walt says they are married, they are married.

And two, they must be married because they have the same last name - Mouse.

from another Disney trivia website ...
According to Walt Disney, Mickey and Minnie Mouse have never been married on screen. But, in 1933, during an interview with Film Pictorial, Walt said, "In private life, Mickey is married to Minnie... What it really amounts to is that Minnie is, for screen purposes, his leading lady." Two years later in 1935, he told Louise Morgan in the News Chronicle "There's no marriage in the land of make-believe. Mickey and Minnie must live happily ever after." The discussion of Mickey and Minnie's wedding has been fueled by the 1932 film Mickey's Nightmare in which Mickey falls asleep in the armchair instead of meeting Minnie at the local dance. Mickey dreams of being married to Minnie and is surrounded by numerous little Mickey mice. Then in 1935, a cover for for the sheet music "The Wedding Of Mister Mickey Mouse" shows a picture of a beaming Mickey, dressing in a tux, leading Minnie, dressed in a veil, from the church to the happy cheering of Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow. This music was a Novelty Fox-trot with music by Franz Vienna and words by Edward Pola with special permission by Walt Disney.

Even if they weren't married they have been living together so many years if you went by our laws after fifteen years of living together you are considered married. That is true also that both of their last names are mouse:love:

Calm down! That was part of the article. I didn't add or take anything away from it.
