Anyone have a Chevy Tahoe?

I am looking at a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 4X4 (it has several upgrades including the luxury package). It has been owned by someone I know and trust and has been serviced regularly and taken good care of. I currently have a Toyota 4Runner Limited (4X4) and I like it, but it has more of an offroad truck feel whereas the Tahoe has a more luxury SUV like vibe. The Tahoe has a bit more power, a bit more room, and gets the same gas mileage as the 4R. I'm torn because I like my 4R but I have always wanted a Tahoe. The trade would be a good deal money wise, so I'm not worried about that. I just want some opinions on the Tahoe itself. Anyone own/have owned one and want to give me pros/cons? Thanks so much!

Very solid vehicles. They make the list of “top 10 vehicles still likely to be on the road at 200,000 miles”.

The Tahoe is actually more truck like than the 4Runner, so set your expectations accordingly. It's a bit bigger, heavier, more rugged. It's also more thirsty. But if you're OK with that, the Tahoe is a good truck.

My 1994 Tahoe is still on the road today! I bought it new, and sold it to a friend in 2004 with approximately 90k miles on it. We always did the maintenance on it and to my knowledge, it’s never had a huge issue. Currently has close to 300k miles on it. When I sold that I bought a 2004 GMC Yukon. Gifted that to my son a few years ago and it currently has close to 160k miles on it. He just had to replace a water pump and an alternator.

Just bought a 2015 GMC Yukon and have no plans on getting rid of it any time soon. Each time we’ve bought our trucks, the salesman states that the trade ins they get typically have well over 250k miles on them and still run great.

We have a 2016 Journey, which is pretty much just a smaller version of the Tahoe. We love it and would love the Tahoe as well - the Tahoe has more room even with the 3rd row. When we have the 3rd row up, we have very little "trunk space".

No offense, but the Dodge Journey and Chevy Tahoe are extremely dissimilar. They have nothing at all in common. Two different manufacturers. The Journey is actually a passenger car on stilts, it's very closely related to the now defunct Chrysler 200 family sedan. It's front wheel drive based and has the characteristics of a family sedan. Essentially, it's a station wagon, but Americans don't like the term "station wagon", so they lift it up a few inches and call it a "crossover". The Chevy Tahoe is built on a pick up truck platform. Heavy duty full frame, truck suspension, truck engine, truck capabilities (both good and bad).

Apples and oranges.

I LOVE my Tahoe.... we have very nice upgrades, and the towing package built in... it pulls our boat like there not anything back there... boat on the trailer is 27 feet...... DH was kidding around and said we could trade in your Tahoe on a Mercedes SUV.... I gave him the crazy eyes... NOPE.... I am keeping my Tahoe.... I LOVE LOVE LOVE it.....

Keep the oil changed, and maintenance and for us with towing the boat really good tires are super important.

My 4Runner is all time 4-wheel drive which cuts gas mileage significantly, sadly. I get around 17-18 in town, 21 highway. So about the same as a Tahoe. I wish I could bring myself to get a car, but I feel like I’m sitting on the ground, lol.

No matter what the EPA rating is, you're not likely to get 17 in the city with the Tahoe. 21 on the highway...maybe, if you're cruising slow. The Tahoe is larger, heavier, bigger engine. I'm not trying to downplay the Tahoe, I think it's a great truck, a fantastic one actually. But unless you have the need for a true truck because you haul, tow, etc...you're better off with something smaller. You may not like the way the Tahoe drives compared to the 4Runner.

You're not sitting on the ground in a car. Each to their own, but I'm not an SUV person. I don't understand the need to sit up super high. It's really not any safer.

Huh? Why the anger? You said a Journey is basically a smaller version of a Tahoe. One is a station wagon and the other is a giant hulking truck. I wasn't trying to be snarky, but didn't want OP to be mislead, just pointing out that they are very different. Sorry if it offended you.

The only thing I would caution is that if I were considering a Tahoe I'd just go ahead and buy a Suburban instead. For us we NEED the third row option AND space behind to haul stuff. The Tahoe has no space in the back!

But then I have 3 kids and two dogs so that's a factor lol.

The Tahoe seems big due to the headroom and the width. But for us, it isn't big enough where it counts or in a practical way. One thing that would help is if you got the Captains chairs so you at least wouldn't have to tip the second row seats forward.

A Journey is more on par with a Chevy Equinox whereas the Dodge Durango would probably be more comparable to a Tahoe. Crossover/mid-size SUV versus full size SUVs.

OP, sorry if I missed it, but how many miles are on the Tahoe you're looking at? That's always a large deciding factor for me and should be taken into consideration.

No offense, but he’s 100% correct. The two are nothing alike. One is based on a unibody front wheel drive car chassis, the other based on a body on frame full-size pickup truck. Apples & oranges. A Journey is more like an Equinox or Traverse (somewhat splitting the difference size-wise).

Hi! It has 48k.

I think that’s somewhat subjective. Certainly the size is different, and you’re talking V8 vs V6. But, the late model Tahoes don’t require nearly as much of a step up into them as a 4Runner, and IMO they have a more comfortable ride. And yes, I would not expect EPA rated numbers under real-World conditions.

Never owned one, but I can say that when I was involved in a 3 car wreck that left 2 cars completely demolished, the Tahoe that started the whole thing barely had a dent. It was hit in the side while turning left, then spun around and landed on the hood of my car and bounced off. I was impressed by how little damage it had.
