Any tips on buying jewelry, namely rings, in Nassau? Where to go?

My DH wants to possibly buy me a ring for my birthday, while on the 4 day cruise on the Dream. Are there any places on the island that you've been that you can recommend? Are they known for any particular stone?

Not aware of any particular stone they are known for, but there are a few jewelry shops on Bay St. downtown. Honestly, lots of the jewelry stores in the Bahamas and the Caribbean buy their jewelry in NY and sell them as "local."

My answer would be buy a ring from Costco before you go.

If I really was set on getting something on vacation, I'd go to Tiffany's, pay full price and save on the sales tax.

There is a lot of junk jewelry floating around in those shops and it's not exactly easy to take care of a problem once you get back home.

I have purchased a lot of jewellery on our cruises. You need to stick with stores recommended by the cruise line as there are alot of fakes/frauds out there. But the quality of jewellery purchased from the recommended store is awesome. There is much bigger selection than here at home and I believe the quality is better. In Nassau we shop at diamonds international. Ask for Shaun he is awesome,not pushy at all. We also shop at good mark jewellers which is now Milano jewellers. Awesome customer service. We also have shopped at Colombian emeralds in Nassau as well. Have fun shopping! Any more questions I'd be happy to answer for you!

I bought a fabulous blue diamond ring at Venetian Jewelers in Nassau. Hubby also got a Phillip Stein watch. Would defiantly go again. Just need to know your prices and stand firm. Also helped to have the jewelry guru from the ship shop with us!

Some things are def cheaper but the selection is the real benefit. Def if nsure of something or bargaining have the ships shopping guide help you. They are fantastic. Another advantage with the selection is that there are lots of choices in one store and some things that you can't purchase at home. For example I purchased a mark Henry alexandrite from Milano jewellers. This was my dream ring and I def can not purchase it any where near where I live.i did have a problem with one ring losing a small stone. The customer service was excellent. I had to send it to New York to be fixed but shipping was fast and communication was excellent. Def better service than I have had at my local jeweller.
