Any Canuck heading down March break

As an American, I want to ask you to not give up on us. Most of us do not support the way he is treating your Country. We will never forget how much you helped us during 9/11 and we are fortunate to have you as a neighbor. Many here are trying to avoid the news because it is so overwhelming, but know that protests are growing in size each week. Please keep your hearts open and know that millions of Americans care about you and your sovereignty. 🇺🇸❤️🇨🇦

We planned on driving down from Windsor in about 6 weeks to Orlando. However, flight prices seemed to have gone down if you don't mind Frontier and avoid a carry on. Looks like you can rent a car in Tampa and leave it at Orlando for about the same price as returning it to Tampa. Adds some flexibility for the flights.

Are you from Windsor too? Never thought I'd potentially see another Windsorite here.
Yes, I wonder if there are more. Definitely some DVC owners around this area.

Not that it matters to anyone but we ended up booking flights from Buffalo with SW for $300 CAD. Driving 4 hours for a flight seems insane to me but I wasn't really comfortable with Frontier after reading their reviews. Being from Windsor you know how lucky we usually are to have the Detroit airport option. However, all I could find were flights around $600 with a checked bag. I wonder if there is a reduction of people flying out of Buffalo to cause the prices to drop. Even Toronto is significantly less than Detroit which is unusual.

I'm flying Frontier next month. I'm about equal distance from Pearson and Buffalo airports (under an hour), so normally go with Southwest, but their March prices were high. I've flown Frontier twice in the past, as low as $110 return, but with only a personal item. So far, no problems with them. The main worry is a cancelled flight. They won't have any backup flights for days if that occurs.

I’ve cancelled my upcoming vacations (3) to the US. We’re now headed to Newfoundland and Labrador this September (we’ve visited all the other provinces,) and to Aruba next January.

We’re also planning on selling our DVC right away.

Not interested in spending time or money
In an environment that is hostile toward Canadians. It’s sad to say, but I feel this relationship is permanently damaged. I sincerely hope I am wrong though.
We are looking at doing the same trip in September to replace our trip to Cali and Aulani. We thought about driving to the Maritimes but thought NFLD would be a bit more culturally different. We aren't selling our dvc. Thankfully we have used/rented most of our 2025 points. Hopefully by next year it is better or we will rent the points out.

I came on here specifically looking for this question and discussion. I have a dear friend who has DVC and treats two of us to a trip when she's able. We've gone twice and have a third one scheduled for November. They're both American but feel as sick about the political climate and the treatment of Canada as I do. It's interesting to me to read that others have experienced Americans as being so oblivious to our feelings - my social media is full of Americans who support us and are horrified. Just the algorithm I guess.

I have loved our trips so much and to be honest, and no self-pity here I promise, for reasons currently beyond my control I don't have much fun in my life and not much to look forward to, so the Disney trips with these friends have been amazing. Disney is so unique, so special. Part of how I can afford a trip like this is our rooms are covered, so going somewhere else with them isn't likely. I've been thinking about different things. What if I flew out of Canada (I'm in a border city and usually fly from Detroit) using a Canadian airline (ugh, but you know). Disney doesn't support the values of the current US administration. I wouldn't be spending any money off of Disney property. And... I just don't think I can do it. I'd feel like I was betraying my country.

Another consideration - I had brunch with some friends over the weekend and one is married to a Canadian border guard. She said they have begun searching the vehicles of everyone who comes back from the US. They are absolutely entitled to do that, and before this random checks would happen occasionally, but to be honest I haven't been searched in years. They're also charging duty for every purchase. For those who don't know, legally you aren't entitled to bring back merchandise for free from the US unless you've been away for I think 48 hours, but in practice it's extremely common for them to allow you to bring back up to a couple hundred dollars' worth, or to not even ask except about alcohol and tobacco. So now I'm wondering about the border crossing experience in both directions.

So yeah. I think not. I'm heartbroken.
Everyone has to make their own decisions. But life is short. My BFF and I go on an annual cruise out of Florida. We’re still planning this year’s, but it’s not until November. So unless things escalate we will still go. We’re both 75 and who knows how many more years we can do this? I have American friends who feel sick about their current situation and feel exactly like we do. Most of the cruise staff are from Italy and the ports are Caribbean or Mexico.

We just went on a trip in January flying in/out of Detroit. We paid $271 per person including bags since I am a Gold SkyMiles member.

I find Frontier mainly does red eye flights out of DTW to MCO.

Once you have flown Delta, I think it is tough to go back to Westjet. Cannot comment on Air Canada as I haven't flown with them in years, but I lump them into the same category as WJ.

As an American in a border state who does pay attention and is horrified by all this, I’ll be spending my vacation and my money in Canada this summer if we’re still welcome by then. We’ll be bringing my high schooler to look at colleges. I don’t think the US has yet begun to understand the many, many ways we have shot ourselves in our collective foot.

FWIW, I live in a red state and the vast majority of people I know care and are dismayed at what is happening.
Good to hear. I think this is a situation where actions will speak louder than words so hopefully some action takes place.

Just an estimate but out of a total of 20 Delta flights, I can think of only one where we were delayed 2hrs due to an aircraft issue. No bad experiences so no need to try other carriers.
