perhaps the family is hoping that with everything else going on in the world right now her death will receive little news coverage (she was very controversial in her views that activly promoted discrimination). it's not unusual that a family wants an opportunity to have a private funeral absent potentially negative public commentary.

I only knew her from the orange juice commercials. Then apparently her career tanked when she became an outspoken anti-LGBT activist.

I understand how a family feels, but a death is public record so surprised someone didn't pick up on it sooner.

She was Miss Oklahoma in 1958 and a second runner up to Miss America. She was a singer with hit records who was a frequent guest on all the variety shows in the 1960's and 1970s. "Paper Roses" being one of her hits, a song later covered my Marie Osmond. She appears on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas Show, American Bandstand, Merv Griffin, She was a regular on Bob Hope Specials, and a member of the troupe of performers who entertained the troops with Bob Hope during the USO Shows during the Vietnam War.
In 1969 she became the spokesperson for the Florida Citrus Commission. If you have heard the slogan "Breakfast without orange juice is like a day without sunshine", that was the catch phrase from her commercials. She also did commercials for Coca Cola, Holiday Inn Hotels, Kraft Foods and Tupperware.
Everything came crashing down due to her political views in the late 1970s.

To be honest, I had the impression that she had died quite a while ago; she just so thoroughly disappeared from public life.

The other thing I always remember seeing her in was the Orange Bowl Parade; she was one of the commentators for years.

I had no idea that Anita Bryant was a commercial spokeswoman because I had seen her Orange Juice commercials with Orange Bird and how did she get her start doing commercials? I'm surprised the news didn't mention her passing in December

She is not someone I admired yet offer condolences to her family, friends and supporters. Was never sure if convictions or pursuit of fame drove her but no longer important in my life.
