She was Miss Oklahoma in 1958 and a second runner up to Miss America. She was a singer with hit records who was a frequent guest on all the variety shows in the 1960's and 1970s. "Paper Roses" being one of her hits, a song later covered my Marie Osmond. She appears on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Mike Douglas Show, American Bandstand, Merv Griffin, She was a regular on Bob Hope Specials, and a member of the troupe of performers who entertained the troops with Bob Hope during the USO Shows during the Vietnam War.
In 1969 she became the spokesperson for the Florida Citrus Commission. If you have heard the slogan "Breakfast without orange juice is like a day without sunshine", that was the catch phrase from her commercials. She also did commercials for Coca Cola, Holiday Inn Hotels, Kraft Foods and Tupperware.
Everything came crashing down due to her political views in the late 1970s.
