Has anyone had their DD's American Girl Dolls ears pierced??? We were supposed to have a great weekend in Boston complete with a trip to AGD store. Well, Irene has cancelled our trip. Girls are very disappointed because they were going to (3 of them) have their doll's ears pierced. I was looking at the dolls and I figure they just push a pin through and use reg earrings with no back? Maybe cut the posts to make them shorter??? I am trying to figure if there is a way to make this happen here. Anyone have a photo? Is there someplace to buy the doll earrings??? Do they use some kind of corkscrew earring? So sad that our big Mommy and Me trip isnt going to happen. Thanks for the info.

there is an American Girl Store in NYC. Is that far from you? Perhaps you could make a trip there soon???

Don't pierce the ears! If your doll is discontinued and you would like to re-sell it after a few years, the pierced ears will probably de-value it.

Of course, if it's not a 'character' doll it won't do much...pierce away. :)

We are in upstate NY so NYC is far away for us. DD's Doll is a character doll but I don't see us selling it. The store does pierce dolls ears so I dont think it would depreciate them that much. The doll is a Julie Doll (50's) so earrings are within character for her. We thought perhaps one of the handi Dads could take the dolls while the girls slept and surprise them. We have been planning the trip since last April. The weather in MA just isnt cooperating. We figure when we get there the rain and winds are going to keep us inside for most of the trip...not fun.

We did it with our cabbage patch dolls in the 80's. Needle put in the flame of the stove. Then my dad pierced them. :lmao:

DD had her dolls ears done last month. They take it in the back room because they use a dremel tool to do it. The holes are quite large if you use the AG earrings. I would not do it myself, I would wait until you can get it done at the store.
The link that Michelle posted uses human posts, not doll ones. I would fear they would fall out. The AG earrings are hard to take out, but they are straight posts and they are pretty long

my DD has a couple of her American girl dolls ears pierced. the earrings are thicker than normal earrings, which make them very easy to handle, and there is no backing at all.

Back in the day, I used a straight pin with a pearl head in my Barbies' ears.

The AG dolls holes are larger than a typical pierced ear. The earrings have larger and longer posts.

I wouldn't do it myself. Wait until you can get to the store and have them do it for you.

I am not sure what they did--they took the doll in a back room for the procedure. So no way to sneak a peak at what they did.

I do know that the earrings they sell have much thicker posts than a standard earing or pin. Almost the thickness of a skewer if not thicker.

I believe you can send the doll in and have them done. I think I saw that as an option on the form when I sent ours in for repair one time. While not the same as visiting the store--the store doesn't allow you see the dolls get pierced anyway, so from that perspective, you aren't missing a thing.

Barbie heads were much thinner and more forgiving the AG dolls. My poor barbies heads were multi pierced! LOL

dremel tool, I'm so glad they do that in the back room!!

I'm a product of the late 80's early 90's, what can I say?!? :rotfl2:

My ears are pierced 3 times on each side, the last 2 sets were done at home too. :rolleyes1
