All passengers and crew on a flight which crashed and overturned while landing at Toronto Pearson airport in Canada have survived, the airport's chief executive has said.

"We are very grateful there was no loss of life and relatively minor injuries," said Deborah Flint of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

One child and two adults were critically injured in the crash, according to emergency services and images shared on social media show a plane flipped over and lying on its roof on the snow-covered tarmac. It appears to be missing at least one of its wings.

Toronto Pearson airport said the crash involved a Delta Air Lines flight arriving from Minneapolis, and of the 80 people on board, 76 were passengers and four were crew.
Eighteen passengers have been transported to hospital in total, according to the airline.

Can't see a thread like this one, so...

Apparently a passenger jet literally FLIPPED at an airport. Amazingly, no deaths! Thank goodness!

That is crazy! It's amazing that nobody was killed. I hope those who were injured have a good recovery. There was video on the BBC that someone took as they exited the plane - it's surreal. I'd link it, but it has a lot of expletives, which honestly is pretty appropriate from someone who was actually on that plane.

DD23's friends Dad was on that flight. Very scary. He said he hit his head but otherwise Ok. Can't imagine what is going through your mind with all of the other plane mishaps that have happened lately.

Seatbelt announcements
THIS! We never take our seat belts off during the flight, just because of unexpected turbulence. I always wondered why they told people it was ok to take off seatbelts? I even get nervous just taking mine off and going to the restroom and back. I think seat belts should be mandatory while the plane is moving.

Usually they tell you to keep your seatbelt on when you are in your seat. They turn off the seatbelt sign to let you know it's safe to get up to use the bathroom, get something out of the bin, etc.

I will have to tell solo to create a poll .I have yet to sit next to someone who wore their belt and by the number of injuries on the Oregon door fly off...I would venture 30% don't wear their belt... thankfully that family did

As close as they were to landing, I can't imagine they told anyone it was OK to have their seatbelts off. I'm sure that's why there were no fatalities.

🤔 hmmm.. maybe between PHX and PDX the veteran fliers don't expect turbulent air... this guy next to me bouncing up down with the screen of his game.. continually going to the pocket in the seat for bottle and I asked him if had ever been hurt mountain biking...sure... so I asked is that why you are not wearing your belt..-$++:$#.i I don't even wear it in the car and the fellow on other side couldn't adjust his pillow.. so off with the belt...the reason I remember this was Riding on a single engine over the same landscape up and down up and down... made me a believer

Turbulence can happen at ANY time during a flight. I have ALWAYS kept my seat belt on during the flight when seated. Honestly, the last thing someone should be doing when exiting an airplane crash is taking video with their cell phone. Getting safely off the plane as fast as possible should be your only priority.
