A yard of ale at Epcot

I was just watching "Around the World In 80 Plates." Has anyone watched the first episode yet?

Well, they were in England and visited a bar where they drank a "yard of ale" in these amazing, long(well, they were a yard of course) glasses.

I was wondering if the bars in the UK pavilion in Epcot sells the yard of ale, in the authentic drinking glass?

Rose and Crown used to have a souvenir cup that I think was a half yard. We have one but I think it was discontinued. If you bring it, will they fill it?

I don't think so, have never seen one there or even a half yard glass. Might have one you can't fill in the gift shop :confused3

I didn't see the show. A yard of ale is a lot of beer, that bulb at the bottom of the glass floods you with beer as you get towards the end. Typically in England the challenge is to drink/chug the whole yard in a "down in one" fashion. Or there is a game of trying to drink it and if you can't you pass it on to the next person in your circle of friends, the one who finishes the beer is the winner.

This can end up with either somone who is very drunk or is throwing up due to the amount of liquid just comsumed. Probably not something Disney would want to actively promote.

I speak from 1/2 yard experience :rotfl:in my younger wilder days!

That sounds like fun :) !

I guess I was out in the heat too much today....I could have sworn this thread title was "Yard sale at Epcot" :rotfl2: my mind didn't even BEGIN to know how to process that :crazy2:

Brit, you are wrong here!

Yes the RandC sold plastic yards, I still have 3 of them. Also you would get a discount if you brought it back for a refill. They stopped doing it a few years ago.

We got a half yard a few years ago during Food & Wine Festival near the Rose & Crown. They haven't had it since. It was a plastic glass with a bulb at the bottom & a long tube that widened at the top.

Have enjoyed many a yard at one of my favorite beer bars in Boston. Not that uncommon a thing in beercentric circles... I know that Rose and Crown hasn't had anything of the sort that I know of in my trips there (2009 forward).

I seem to recall seeing them sell something like that in the gift shop. Empty, of course :(

:lmao::rotfl2: I read it that way at first too. Not enough coffee this morning!

I didn't see any yards or even half yards in Sept. but my dh did buy a souvenir glass of beer. The menu signs say glass but it's a plastic beer mug from the Rose and Crown.

Ren faires always have those yard cups, they are fun.

I can vouch that as recently as 2009, the stand outside Rose & Crown sold souvenoir half yards that could be refilled at a discount. Its probably for the best that they no longer sell (or refill) them .... wow can those things knock you down quick.

I think I'd just hang around until they get to Germany, and then drink along with the crowd swaying and clinking their masses.

Take me to your liter!
