I want to reiterate what LKing said because I've seen multiple references to MDE in this thread. The MDE app does not work at Disneyland. You need to download the Disneyland app:
LKing was asking on recency because we've had people here in recent months say they tried this and the ticket booths wouldn't do it. I think the last person who said they were able to get paper tickets said they did so at Guest Services.
We used magic bands for the first time at DL in February, and as the person who previously had to take out her phone and swipe each LL and ticket, I really appreciated how easy it was. We knew we could use them again for future trips and on DCL, so it made sense to us to buy them.
My 2 cents is if you know you’ll buy them for WDW in the future, you might as well buy them now for your DL trip. If you get them at the resort it could take some time to set up/charge/update software so just be prepared for that.
Haven’t seen anyone else mention this, but if you decide to get MB+ while at the parks, highly suggest getting these before your trip and bringing them with you. They help prevent the MB+ from falling off. Saved us a bunch of times!
I know it's not super common, but if you have a 3D printer, there is a cute design for an MB clip/retainer on Thingiverse that has Mickey ears. I think the photo shows it on an old MB, but it worked just fine on our MB+
