We were in the Magic Kingdom until just about the time of this post, and I’m relieved to have missed that! It was a surprisingly hot and busy day. All of Orlando has been absurdly quiet for two weeks and then the 3 day weekend hits and it’s day and night.

I agree it’s unlikely we will ever hear more, but if we do, I imagine this thread is where it will happen.

The woman who is showing the pictures to security is on Twitter - definitively the same woman because her profile pic is a selfie. She posted that the axe was a prop (from what I gathered from the island). The person was a kid, she didn’t think any older than 16, and he was arrested.

Saw this synopsis - take it for what it's worth ...

So skinny man in camo jumped over fence, yanked the prop axe off the left side of that shed after trying for a while. Then used the axe to break open the shed door. Stayed in shed for about a minute then came out with hammer and jumped fence back onto trail. At this point what transpired was reported to guest experiences. Bunch of security had him cornered on the island.

I think people were quick to take your report seriously because of the matter of fact way you wrote it. Doesn't hurt that you've been on this board for 20 years either. Maybe it's just me but it seemed weirdly hot in the Magic Kingdom today, considering the high was only around 91. Maybe the heat was making that kid / skinny person crazy. I'm glad that it sounds like nobody was hurt.

It was hot but not nearly as busy as I had expected. We didn’t arrive until 10am and still did so much. We got lucky with so many rides. The people mover broke just as we got back to the station, happened by Pirates right as it was opening after having been closed for a long time, again happened by Splash just as it was reopening after a closure, and were just finished up on Tom Sawyer Island just as they asked folks to leave.

Was a zoo leaving the park tonight. We ended up walking to the Grand Floridian, grabbed a drink there and that’s where we saw the story had exploded on various social media and blogs. Then caught the monorail to the TTC and our car after everything had died down.

So I am understanding the lady in the gray dress said it was a child, definitely not older than 16, and that the hatchet was a prop he pried off of a shed.

Were his camo clothes like the standard stuff kids sometimes wear? Camo athletic shorts, camo athletic tee, etc? Or are we talking full camo (pants, long sleeves, etc)? Could it have been a kid goofing off (albeit in a way he should have known better, based on his age?

Someone said he was arrested. So the police arrived?

Tom Sawyer island was darn near deserted when I went. I didn’t like it. I don’t recall security. Anyone know the staff on the island?

What in the world? I just saw a fight at Costco the other day because someone was apparently trying
to cut in the gas line. There are some short tempers out there. Everyone be safe.
