Hey all!

I really struggle with an eating disorder, but due to a recent travel for a family function, I'm realizing I can still travel, and maybe doing what I want in life instead of waiting until I lose all this weight to live life, might be a good idea. Might even help motivate me to live life instead of eat because I'm bored.

I'm currently trying to decide between a solo birthday trip to Disneyland or a Disney cruise. I'm leaning a bit more towards a cruise because of walking and it's all inclusive---might be cheaper.

I carry most of my weight in my hips, and butt. I can move pretty well for my weight, but do struggle getting up and down.

Regardless I plan on walking before this trip.

I am so sorry you are struggling.

Ironically we were talking about cruises at work today. The main takeaway from that discussion is that it is all about eating. I know that isn’t true, but food is a big part of the experience. Contrast this with a parks trip where you will be walking for miles each day and rides/experiences are more important than food.

If it were up to me I would use a parks trip as motivation to exercise/get into shape. Ie I know I need to be able to walk 10 miles/day. Currently I can walk 1. So I need to build up to that by going on daily walks.

For a cruise the motivation might be that you want to look good in a bathing suit. However, that is a lot harder to control and easier to get down on yourself about.

Focus on your physical health first, and the rest should improve from there.

I'm also thinking of the food aspect on the cruise. "All inclusive" often leads to over-indulging just because the food is there and readily available and the mentality of "I already paid for it so I might as well eat it."

Will the cost of paying for food help deter the extra snacking? If so, I'd recommend the parks visit, and don't leave a credit card on your account for charging. Maybe put a set $$$ on a gift card and use that for your food -- or budget that by day and have 1 gift card for each day. That might force you to pay more attention to what you are eating and decide to skip a boredom-induced snack.

But I agree -- you need to get out and enjoy life without waiting for "someday."

Ohhhh - another idea - only pay for food with cash??? That might also help to cut down on unnecessary in park snacking, and also keep you within a budget.
