My oldest DD is turning 21 in September (where did the time go :confused3)
Does anyone have any creative ideas for gifts?
I was thinking of getting 21 separate gifts (one big thing and several small things) but I need some ideas!
Thanks!

Does she wear jewelry? How about a charm bracelet with 21 charms commemorating different milestones in her life up until this point?

For a female I'd recommend a significant piece of jewelry, something like a Tiffany bracelet or necklace.

What stage of life is she in? In college? Working? Living at home? Has her own place? Single? In a relationship?

We are planning on taking DD to Vegas with a friend for her 21st birthday. We will need to wait until after the semester is over. Oddly enough, she is wanting to bring a girlfriend, NOt her boyfriend.

My DD turned 21 last Sept, we managed a trip to food and wine for her. Kameleon jewelry is very nice sterling silver with interchangeable "pops", check out their website, it could be a gift that gives options for years to come.

My DH would say get her a bottle of Jack, Johnny, Jim and maybe Jose. ;)

When my oldest DD turned 21, I sent her a bracelet with periodots (sp?), a Jim Shore carving of Thumper and a nice set of shot glasses.

My 2nd daughter just turned 21 this month. I bought her a Jim Shore carving of Tinkerbell, a bracelet with rubies, and a set of shot glasses.

I figured they are going to go get the alcohol on their own. :rotfl2:

As you can see, we are taking DD to Food&Wine to celebrate her 21st. Both her boyfriend and best girlfriend offered to go, too, but DD said no, this is just for her and us. Such a sweetie!

I had thought about nip-sized bottles of different alcohols/cordials/liquors, too. One thing I saw at the Salt store in the Old Port of Portland was a shot glass made entirely from rose salt, for doing shots of tequila. NOT to emphasize the alcohol aspect of turning 21, but it WAS very cool!

I don't know what to suggest. If we weren't doing F&W I'd be stuck, as DD isn't into the whole charm bracelet thing or stuff like that. Good luck- let us know what you choose to do. It's really strange, thinking of my little one as an adult now.

I'm going to be using an idea I found here on the Dis. It's her golden birthday in a few months- she will be 21 on the 21st. Starting on the first day of the month, I will be giving her 21 gifts of 21 things. Now, I haven't figured out what the last big gift will be, but the other stuff will be fun, inexpensive stuff, like 21 pennies from the year she was born, 21 candy bars, 21 postage stamps, etc. I've got to get on this, because I need to have it ready for her roommate to have when I bring her to school next month. I'm thinking some of the things will be too heavy to ship, like 21 bottles of beer.

… on the wall, 21 bottles of beer, you take one down and pass it around, 20 bottles of beer on the wall!"

Sorry, first thing I thought of, so I just had to!! :drinking1

I got a Tiffany necklace for my 21st and absolutely love it - I haven't taken it off since! It wasn't a surprise - my mum took me shopping and let me pick it out, which was nice (deciding to go to Tiffany's the day before Valentine's day wasn't such a great idea though!). I also love Pandora bracelets and got my first one the Christmas before my 18th so I could get charms then. I got a laptop for that birthday, which was great at the time, but not something I can keep forever like jewellery.

Thanks for the ideas!
She is a going into her junior year at college.
Unfortunately, a trip or an expensive piece of jewelry is not in the financial picture at the moment.
I saw online someone did a "bouquet" with 21 little airplane size bottles of liquor. It looked cute.

The bouquet is cute, but once used its gone. A nice piece of jewelry can last forever. Try this site, a ring and stone can be had for around $100, https://kameleonjewelry.com/

My godmother got me an Alex and Ani bracelet for my 21st. It meant a lot to me because she got me the trident, which is one of my sorority's symbols.

I'd recommend getting one that's meaningful in addition to something else.

I agree. A nice, sentimental piece of jewellery doesn't have to be expensive. Pandora rings start from under $50. You should also be able to find a nice sterling silver bracelet and charm for around that price. If your budget can stretch a little more then Tiffany necklaces (including chain) start from $125. You don't have to spend much more than the bouquet would cost, but I really think in a few years when she doesn't say, 'I can't remember what you gave me for my 21st' you will be really glad you did it.

Other non-jewellery items could be something like a nice mirror, photo frame or ornament (the Willowtree figures are lovely).

My other suggestion would be to see if there's maybe a nice piece of your jewellery or an object (or something from another relative) that you could pass onto her. My great-aunt gave me a gorgeous pearl bracelet that belonged to my great-grandmother. I really, really appreciated it - especially as my grandmother passed away when I was little (and my aunt took her pearls for my cousin...who is a hippie and will never wear pearls in her life) and because she decided to give it to me over her own granddaughter.

If you're a bit crafty and creative then something homemade like a scrapbook or a clothing quilt would be amazing, but I don't know if you have the time to do that.
