I am very low on points for our next trip. We will be traveling Thanksgiving week for the first time. We are a family of 5. Dh, DD21, DS11, DD8 and myself. DD21 will only be there Wed- Sat, with the rest of us staying Sat- Sun.

We are owners at VGF so I have us booked in a 1 bedroom. I have been thinking about trying to switch out at 7 months to a 2 bedroom at SSR. I don’t have any extra points to borrow or get OTU points, already done. I could get a small transfer but that’s dips into my buy another dvc contract once DD21 finishes college fund.

I think I know SSR 2 bedroom is a better option so that we all have our space. DD21 is on an entirely different sleep schedule than everyone else, so it would be annoying having her sleep the day away in the living room of the 1 bedroom. Just having a hard time letting going of staying at VGF. I love MK resorts, the hustle and bustle, seeing the castle while I have my coffee, easy access to MK, the MK dining options.

We are already doing 2 nights at the dolphin before moving to use our dvc points so no more split stay than that.

What does everything think? 1 bedroom VGF or 2 bedroom SSR?

I don't love the layout of SS 2B. How about OKW? That's super spacious and very airy feeling.

OKW looks lovely and we haven’t stayed there yet. However, I have exactly enough for SSR. Not even 1 point extra. We could do Dolphin 3 nights instead of 2, so that we end up having 5 nights in a 2 bedroom instead of 6, which opens a few points up for that stay. The 4 of us travel well together so maybe Dolphin won’t be too bad the 3 nights. We have no problem doing a studio or 1 bedroom with 4. It’s when DD21 enters our trips, everyone needs a little more space.

I think you answered your own question. VGF is the more appealing resort, especially when you will be traveling, but you need the extra bedroom. I’m not sure how the sleeping arrangement would have worked out for your kids based on their ages and the number of sleeping spaces available in the VGF 1B.

Every trip is different. Yes, most trips the MK hustle and bustle is great. For this trip, maybe the quiet elegance of SSR is just what the doctor ordered.

Are any other 2BRs in your point budget?

With older kids, I would opt for SSR over VGF for the larger room, extra bathroom ect. SSR used to be a hard no for us, until we stayed there- then fell in love with the resort and purchased there. It is very different than VGF, but you also do not feel the need to go into a park there. This is the first year we are not staying at VGF or SSR (I was able to snag a couple nights at poly). But if given the choice of 1 vs 2 bed, I would take the two bedroom with the 2nd bathroom. I always felt that VGF should have put a second bathroom in the 1 bedroom and 3 bathrooms in the two-bedroom. My kids love SSR too

Thanks everyone for confirming we need to have the 2 bedroom, wherever that might be. Right now, we have exactly enough for the 6 nights at SSR. Not even 1 extra point, so even OKW and Kidani standard are a few more than we have available. We still have some time before the 7 month window so I will think about maybe shortening the 2 bedroom to 5 nights, so we can have more options. I will keep my eyes open for a some transfer or possibly renting 1 night. If not, SSR has many pluses to take advantage of. It will just be a little different than our normal trips, which isn’t a bad thing.

SSR was great during our family trip! Request Paddock or Grandstand, and I do not think you will be disappointed. All the staff there was so friendly and helpful! The bus transportation to MK was very efficient and the boat to Disney Springs was enjoyable. :)

Am I reading this right?
Trip Begins Sat 11/22/25
Check out Sun 11/30/25

Dolphin 2 Nights
Saturday 11/22/25 & Sunday 11/23/25 are at the Dolphin.

DVC 6 Nights
Check in Monday 11/24/25
Check out Sunday 11/30/25

I am assuming you are talking about SSR Standard?
If so AKL is still cheaper and provides a 3rd bathroom if booking Kidani and not Jambo.

2 Bedroom Points
AKL Standard/Resort 244
Old Key West 255
Saratoga Standard/Resort 248

Yes, you are right! I must have looked 20 times and skipped over Kidani standard being 244. We have exactly 248 with borrowing and OTU points so SSR and Kidani seem to be our options. Maybe my mind just automatically goes to Savannah view. I’ll have to see what’s available and how the family feels about non Savannah view if staying at Kidani. Thanks for checking!

Standard at SSR has a chance to have a nice view with the landscaping but that extra bathroom is quite the bonus.

Both have great parking options either outside your villa or taking an elevator down to a covered garage.

I would save the 4 points and go with AKL but I would certainly not addon another night at the dolphin to save points as to us that would be to cramped at 3 nights but that is just our families opinion.

You are going Thanksgiving week, one of the highest DVC demand times of the year at WDW. Be aware that AKV Jambo is already gone for standard (now resort) view and most of savanna view, and Kidani resort view 2BRs are already missing 4 nights in the middle of your desired dates and more dates could be gone before 7-months out, and Kidani savanna view is also likely to be missing nights before 7-months out. Moreover, though currently shown as open, it is a time when SSR rooms can disappear for multiple nights (particularly the Tues through Fri of that week) before 7-months out, particularly the "standard" room category and potentially even the preferred room category.

To accomadate DD21 they can always convert their VGF 1 Bed to a 2 Bed by using an air mattress or removing the twin mattress and put in in the closet as it is massive lol

This is definitely a concern. I am leaning towards finding a points transfer so that if this happens at least I can stalk for days to become available. We really aren’t that picky, so we’ll make anything work.

Have you thought about doing 2 studios at VGF? And only getting the 2nd studio for the nights your daughter is there? She has her own space, you have yours. You get to stay at your favorite resort. Win Win Win.
